Lisa Snowdon opens the Cosmos Therapy Zone

95.8 Capital FM presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Lisa Snowdon officially opened a new therapies unit at The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice in south west London on Thursday.

The Cosmos Therapy Zone, an extension to the original building at Shooting Star House, will house play, music, family and relaxation therapies which are vital to the 250 families supported by Shooting Star.

Guests at the grand opening included Shane Richie, Margherita Taylor, Bobby Davro, Richard Drummie and Shooting Star Patrons Tony Hadley and Samantha Bond. They were treated to demonstrations of music and relaxation therapies, and given insight from Shooting Star’s Care Team about the value these services will give to children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Lisa Snowdon and Patron of Help a London Child Margherita Taylor with children at Shooting Star HouseLisa, who was visiting Shooting Star House for the first time said: ‘I feel very honoured to have been asked to open The Cosmos Therapy Zone. This is such a fantastic place, the atmosphere is great and this new therapies unit is going to make a real difference to the families supported by Shooting Star.’

Tony Hadley thinks The Cosmos Therapy Zone will be beneficial to both the children and their parents. ‘I was absolutely bowled over by the new facility. It’s well designed and will undoubtedly be a great help to the children here. It will also help the parents which is so important because they need some relaxation from the constant care they give to their children.’

Steve and Louise Wilks, parents of twins Shaney and Chesney, said the whole family are looking forward to getting into The Cosmos Therapy Zone. ‘I can’t wait to use the Relaxation room,’ said Louise. Caring for Shaney and Chesney is a full-time job and I normally find it hard it switch off, but I know that when we’re at Shooting Star, I’ll be able to use that room and know they are being looked after.’ Dad Steve said: ‘The boys will love the music room. They can feel the vibrations when the equipment is played and they just love it.’

The Cosmos Therapy Zone was made possible after support from 95.8 Capital FM's Help a London Child Christmas Appeal, Vodafone and the generosity of Shooting Star supporters.
