Tony is as good as gold Spandau Ballet frontman performs intimate gig for Shooting Star ![]() A host of celebrities enjoyed an exclusive acoustic set by Tony Hadley at the prestigious Embassy Club in Mayfair in July in support of The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice. Philip Glenister, Bobby Davro, Nicky Clarke and Jodie Prenger were among the 100 lucky guests to witness Tony’s performance, which included Spandau Ballet hits, Elvis covers and a rousing finale where Tony was joined on stage by Bobby Davro. Guests were treated to champagne and canapés and VIP treatment was given to teenagers supported by Shooting Star, and their families.Shooting Star raised funds at the event with an auction, with many of the prizes donated by celebrities in attendance. Philip Glenister offered a behind-the-scenes tour during filming of the final Ashes to Ashes series, Bobby Davro gave away tickets to see him in pantomime and Jodie Prenger donated backstage passes to Oliver!. Tony Hadley has been supporting Shooting Star for a number of years after learning that children’s hospices have no long-term government funding and therefore depend on voluntary donations. Speaking after the performance, Tony said: ‘In the current financial situation, charities need as much help as they can so I’m more than happy to give my time. Shooting Star is such a fabulous charity and a completely worthwhile cause. Obviously it can be a sad place at times, but the way the hospice has been built and decorated, the facilities they have and the way the staff are, there is such a happy vibe about the place.’ ![]() Karen Sugarman, Director of Fundraising Development for Shooting Star said: ‘I’d like to say a huge thank you to our Patron Tony Hadley for a fantastic performance and for his continued hard work and commitment to Shooting Star. We are also very grateful to Embassy owner Mark Fuller for providing us with such a wonderful venue. Finally, I’d like to thank the teenagers from Shooting Star and their families who have been able to attend this very special event.’ |
