Shooting Star House provides expert care throughout the course of a child's illness and in the final stages of their life, supporting the family at all times. End of Life Care can be provided either at Shooting Star House or at home, allowing the family to choose the most comfortable surroundings. Symptom Control is essential at this time and we work closely with the Symptom Care Team to help minimise physical discomfort. Our Counselling Team is also on hand to support the family and we provide relaxation therapies for family members. For spiritual support we have good contacts with local religious organisations to meet the individual needs of the families.

After death, the Tranquil Suite allows our bereaved families and their friends the flexibility and privacy to grieve in their own way, while knowing our Care Team are close by for anything they may need. The Tranquil Suite has its own peaceful garden, allowing families privacy during this time. Situated in the garden is a Memory Tree, which is made of specially wrought metal and adorned with coloured crystals - rose quartz, jade, labradorite, green goldstone and amethyst - specially chosen for their individual meanings. Families are invited to tie a silver star, with their child's name engraved on it, to one of the tree's branches if they so wish.
