Volunteering for Shooting Star is a great way to make a real difference while having lots of fun and making new friends along the way. Whatever your skills, experience and availabilty, there are many ways you can help. You might be able to help with the gardening at Shooting Star House, assist the Fundraising Team, work at one of our shops, or join one of our Supporter Groups. Below is a list of current opportunities but if you can help in any way, please contact us.
We are indebted to people who give their time and skills for Shooting Star. We currently have approximately 500 volunteers giving a total of 60,000 hours of their time every year.
 
The Shooting Star Children's Hospice has six charity shops: Ashford Hampton Hill Shepperton Teddington Twickenham Whitton Helping us in our shops is a rewarding experience and a great way to interact with colleagues and the general public looking to support Shooting Star. We need help sorting and pricing donated goods, preparing them for sale and making that important final sale. Training is given. Morning shifts: 9.30 am -1.00 pm Afternoon shifts: 1.00 pm - 4.30 pm
Drivers needed: Mon-Sat, day time to move stock and transport goods.

Day Care provision: Volunteers who have childcare training would be very useful as we develop this new service.
Kitchen Assistant: Weekdays 10am - 2pm to help the Cook with general kitchen duties.
Weekend Suppers: Saturday or Sunday (or both), 4.30pm - 7pm, to cook suppers for the children, families and staff.
Receptionist: To cover Monday or Friday mornings, 9am - 1pm.
General Housekeeping Duties: Monday, Friday or Saturday to assist our Housekeeper to keep Shooting Star House clean and tidy. Both light and heavy tasks available.
Qualified Complementary Therapists specifically trained in Hollistic Massage, Reflexology and Indian Head Massage.
Professional Musicians - to give performances to the children.
General Administrative Duties: We require people with office administration experience from filing to computer skills.
Gardeners - always required to keep our garden areas neat and tidy.
Mini Bus Drivers - required for trips out.

Lead a supporter group: Have you got the time and energy to lead a willing volunteer group in Kingston, Hounslow, Ashford or Chiswick? These groups play a crucial role from creating innovative fundraising activiites to representing Shooting Star in our local community. Support Challenge Events: We always need volunteers to come and make some noise to help our people on Challenge Events.
Corporate volunteer opportunities: Create a fundraising day with your colleagues at a venue near you such as shopping centres, local shops and train stations. These events help to raise vital funds and create awareness of Shooting Star in our communities.
The Shooting Star Lottery: Volunteers needed to sell The Shooting Star Lottery tickets in the community, at events throughout the year and at Barclays Bank branches.
Mail outs: We regularly need volunteers to help stuffing envelopes for our leaflet distribution.
Drivers: To collect and pick up event materials (expenses paid upon request)
Volunteers needed to fetch/carry/set-up/take down equipment for fairs, fetes etc
Speakers required: Confident public speakers to represent Shooting Star for cheque collections and awareness talks. Audiences can range from school children to community or business groups such as Rotarians or Chambers of Commerce. We are particularly looking for representatives to cover the north of our area between Hillingdon and Hampstead. Full training will be given and the ability to use PowerPoint would be advantageous.
Bucket Collecting Co-ordinator: We are looking for a volunteer to find new bucket collecting opportunities within our area. You would also be responsible for organising volunteers to cover the collecting shifts.
Can collection co-ordinators: We are looking to expand our collection can network to build on our profile. We are looking for at least two enthusiastic volunteers who can spare at least one day a week to place new cans in the community and collect full ones. Driving is essential and petrol expenses will be paid upon request.
