The Great Wall of China Trek

Date: Saturday 8th May 2021

Where: China, Mutianyu,China

Time: 5 days of treking

Cost: Self-funded and fundraising options available

The Great Wall of China Trek is a fantastic 5 day hike (with 4-9 hours of walking each day) along this awesome man made structure. One of the best in charity treks, this challenge takes us over watch towers and mountains, through historic battlement stations that are well off the tourist trail – there are many sections during this charity challenge where we’ll feel the Great Wall is for us only, with no-one else in sight. Rest assured, the Great Wall provides a fantastic backdrop to some fantastic trekking.

A unique feature of our trek is that you have the opportunity to lay a brick on one section of the magnificent Great Wall, helping to restore this historic landmark for future generations.

The trekking on this challenge is hard, due to the amount of steps we trek up and down each day – it can sometimes take an hour just to trek 1km on this glorious structure! Another highlight of this challenge is to conquer the 1,000 steps up to the wall at Mutianyu – culminating with the ascent of the ‘Heavenly Ladder’.

“You have not lived if you have not been to the Great Wall”, or so the Chinese saying goes, and it’s not surprising why! The Great Wall of China has been voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Stretching for 6,000km, it zig zags its way across China, snaking across mountains and through valleys.

I would strongly recommend this challenge to anyone who enjoys a sense of adventure. Before I signed up I had never walked anywhere, always using public transport. A trip of a lifetime that is not only satisfying but the sense of achievement after completing the Great Wall of China Trek is immense. The sights and sounds of Beijing and seeing the Great Wall for the first time leave you in awe. An adventure that I would recommend anyone undertakes in their lifetime.
