Those who would like to can then enjoy eating their freshly made pizza afterwards. \nAlongside the pizza-making\, there will be a range of food-themed arts\, crafts and sensory activities\, including paper plate pizzas\, felt tomato crafts\, salt dough making\, and sensory trays filled with spaghetti\, rice\, flour and other exciting textures. \nWhether you’d like to make a pizza\, get creative with crafts\, explore sensory activities or simply spend time with other Shooting Star families\, we’d love to welcome you for a relaxed and enjoyable morning together.

DESCRIPTION:Our doors are open on Thursday mornings\, welcoming families to drop-in to our Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House\, our Bereavement Centre. There is coffee\, cake and fruit and our Family Support Workers are there to chat\, listen\, or just be with you if you don’t feel able to speak. Everyone welcome\, including siblings\, grandparents\, or a different friend or family member. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. We will gather in the dining room\, but please note that hospice day-to-day practice will continue at Shooting Star House.\nAfter cafe\, you are welcome to stay as long as you wish to continue conversations. SUMMARY:Garden at Christopher's open for National Garden Scheme
DESCRIPTION:This August\, Christopher’s will be opening the garden for the National Garden Scheme for the fourth year! \nOriginally set up in 1927 to support district nurses\, the National Garden Scheme now raises millions of pounds for nursing and health charities each year\, including Hospice UK\, which received a £450\,000 donation in 2025. \nAs our families will know\, the garden has been specifically designed with the needs of the children we support in mind\, from adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas and quiet corners to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices was delighted to welcome a beautiful addition to the garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin. The flowers were donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal-winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, which award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes designed with sustainability at its heart. \nWe would love for you to join us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s alongside members of the public; refreshments will be available. \nSupported families go FREE to this event. If you would like to attend\, please fill out the form by clicking the ‘RSVP’ link. There will also be plenty of shells to discover and use in your creations. \n  \nWhen it’s time to cool off\, we’ll have sweet summer treats to enjoy\, including ice creams\, lollies and candy floss. \n  \nWe look forward to welcoming you for a relaxed morning with a touch of seaside magic!

SUMMARY:Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House
DESCRIPTION:Our doors are open on Thursday mornings\, welcoming families to drop-in to our Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House\, our Bereavement Centre. There is coffee\, cake and fruit and our Family Support Workers are there to chat\, listen\, or just be with you if you don’t feel able to speak. Everyone welcome\, including siblings\, grandparents\, or a different friend or family member. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. DESCRIPTION:An information session for employers\, with guidance\, tips and advice on how to best support bereaved staff. \n  \nJoin us in-person or online. \nSupporting a colleague after the death of a child is one of the most sensitive and complex challenges any organisation can face—yet many employers feel unprepared. \n\n\n\nThis powerful\, practical session equips colleagues\, line managers and HR professionals with the confidence\, language and frameworks needed to respond with compassion and clarity. Drawing on real-life insight and evidence-based practice\, we explore what bereaved parents may experience\, what truly helps (and what can unintentionally harm)\, and how to create a workplace culture that supports grief – both immediately and over time. \nAttendees will leave with clear\, actionable guidance\, a deeper understanding of grief in the workplace following the death of a child\, and the tools to support colleagues in a way that is humane and helpful.
