DESCRIPTION:Memory Day is a special day to remember and treasure the life of your child. \n\n\n\n  \nWhether your child was supported by our hospice for many years\, you began receiving our care after they died\, or you are new to our service\, Memory Day is a day especially for you and your family. \n  \nThis year\, we are holding three Memory Day events: \n  \nFriday 19 June 2026 – Shooting Star House\, Hampton \nSaturday 20 June 2026 – Shooting Star House\, Hampton \nWednesday 24 June 2026 – Gate Street Barn\, Bramley (near Guildford) \n  \nPlease make sure you RSVP to the specific Memory Day you plan to attend. You are welcome to choose the date and location that best suits you and your family. \n  \nOn the day\, you will be warmly welcomed with drinks and refreshments\, followed by a remembrance service. This includes candle lighting and a shared video montage\, offering time and space to reflect and remember together. Afterwards\, we will provide lunch and invite you to take part in creating a keepsake in memory of your child. \n  \nYou will have the opportunity to request a personalised star for the Memory Tree in the Shooting Star House Memory Garden\, or a leaf for the Memory Tree in Christopher’s Memory Garden. Each star or leaf will be engraved with your child’s name and you will be able to place this on the tree during the day if you wish. A link to the request form will be shared in your order confirmation email. \n\nPlease RSVP by Friday 29 May 2026.\nWe very much hope you can join us for one of our Memory Day events. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. Family support workers will be there to listen\, chat\, or simply walk alongside you — whatever feels right for you on the day. \nThere’s no pressure to talk or share — you are welcome to come exactly as you are\, no matter how you’re feeling. SUMMARY:Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House
DESCRIPTION:Our doors are open on Thursday mornings\, welcoming families to drop-in to our Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House\, our Bereavement Centre. There is coffee\, cake and fruit and our Family Support Workers are there to chat\, listen\, or just be with you if you don’t feel able to speak. Everyone welcome\, including siblings\, grandparents\, or a different friend or family member. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. We will gather in the dining room\, but please note that hospice day-to-day practice will continue at Shooting Star House.\nAfter cafe\, you are welcome to stay as long as you wish to continue conversations. Our building closes at 5pm. \nIf you would like to bring a pet to a cafe\, please complete the pet request form at least a week in advance. \nNo need to RSVP.

SUMMARY:Garden at Christopher's open for National Garden Scheme
DESCRIPTION:This August\, Christopher’s will be opening the garden for the National Garden Scheme for the second time! \nOriginally set up in 1927 to support district nurses\, the National Garden Scheme now raises millions of pounds for nursing and health charities each year\, including Hospice UK\, who received a £450\,000 donation in 2024. \nAs our families will know\, the garden has been specifically designed with the needs of the children we support in mind\, from adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas and quiet corners to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices were delighted to welcome a beautiful addition to the garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin. The flowers were donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal-winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, which award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes designed with sustainability at its heart. \nWe would love for you to join us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s alongside members of the public; refreshments will be available. \nSupported families go FREE to this event. If you would like to attend\, please fill out the form by clicking the ‘RSVP’ link. Equally\, we are happy for supported families to join us on the day without prior commitment\, but please make yourself known to a member of staff upon arrival\, so you are not charged entry. \nHowever\, if you wish to support the National Garden Scheme\, you can purchase a ticket on the day\, but please do not feel obliged to do so. \nAdults: £5\nChildren: FREE

DESCRIPTION:All parents of Shooting Star are invited to our Bereaved Parents’ Forum\, which takes place four times a year on Zoom. Everyone is welcome to this informal meeting – and encouraged to bring a cup of tea and snacks! \nAt our forum\, we tell you about new ideas we have\, and ask your opinion about changing and growing aspects of our care. Being able to talk to you about the care you receive helps us know what works well and what we can improve. We’re grateful to every parent who gives us their time by attending the forum. This helps ensure that the care we provide is as meaningful as possible for all the families of Shooting Star. \nPlease come along if you are free. \nZoom details will be shared via text on the day – there’s no need to RSVP.
