DESCRIPTION:We warmly invite bereaved families to join our fortnightly Walk & Talk – a gentle\, supportive space to connect with others who understand. \nWe’ll meet at the café (Pitzhanger Pantry) in the middle of Walpole Park\, Ealing\, before taking a relaxed walk together. Family support workers will be there to listen\, chat\, or simply walk alongside you — whatever feels right for you on the day. \nThere’s no pressure to talk or share — you are welcome to come exactly as you are\, no matter how you’re feeling. Whether you’d like quiet company\, a chance to talk\, or just some fresh air\, you are very welcome. \nPlease feel free to sign up in advance or attend on the day. \n

DESCRIPTION:Our doors are open on Thursday mornings\, welcoming families to drop-in to our Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House\, our Bereavement Centre. There is coffee\, cake and fruit and our Family Support Workers are there to chat\, listen\, or just be with you if you don’t feel able to speak. Everyone welcome\, including siblings\, grandparents\, or a different friend or family member. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. SUMMARY:Garden at Christopher's open for National Garden Scheme
DESCRIPTION:This August\, Christopher’s will be opening the garden for the National Garden Scheme for the fourth year! \nOriginally set up in 1927 to support district nurses\, the National Garden Scheme now raises millions of pounds for nursing and health charities each year\, including Hospice UK\, which received a £450\,000 donation in 2025. \nAs our families will know\, the garden has been specifically designed with the needs of the children we support in mind\, from adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas and quiet corners to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices was delighted to welcome a beautiful addition to the garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin. The flowers were donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal-winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, which award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes designed with sustainability at its heart. \nWe would love for you to join us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s alongside members of the public; refreshments will be available. \nSupported families go FREE to this event. If you would like to attend\, please fill out the form by clicking the ‘RSVP’ link. DESCRIPTION:Join other siblings (aged 5+) for a special day out at Bocketts Farm Park with the chance to explore the farm\, meet a wide variety of animals and enjoy indoor and outdoor play. \nThe day will include a guided farm experience with activities such as a tractor and trailer ride\, a small animal encounter session and the chance to explore areas including the Stable Yard\, Animal Discovery Barn and Farm Walk. There will also be time to enjoy the outdoor play areas and see even more animals. \nChildren will be supported and supervised by Shooting Star staff throughout the day. This visit is designed to be a fun and relaxed experience\, with children welcome to take part in as much or as little as feels right for them. \nProvisional itinerary: \n\nDrop off: 10:00am (please arrive promptly)\nGuided farm experience including tractor ride and animal encounters\nLunch together\nPig race\nFree time to explore and play (supervised by staff)\nPick up: 14:00\n\n  \nImportant information: \n\nThe visit will take place outdoors\, so please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.\nPlease bring a packed lunch and drinks for your child.\nHand washing facilities are available across the farm and will be encouraged regularly\, especially after contact with animals.\nFree parking is available on-site.\n\nIf your child has any additional requirements\, please let us know when booking so we can support you as fully as possible. \nWe hope this will be a fun day out for all our siblings!

There is coffee\, cake and fruit and our Family Support Workers are there to chat\, listen\, or just be with you if you don’t feel able to speak. Everyone welcome\, including siblings\, grandparents\, or a different friend or family member. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. DESCRIPTION:A webinar for school professionals offering guidance supporting children and young people who have experienced the death of a sibling. \n\n\n\n\n  \nThis webinar will focus on practical guidance\, trauma-informed perspectives\, and creative strategies for supporting bereaved children and young people in primary and secondary school settings. Topics will include: \n\nCommunication with children\, families\, and professionals\nDevelopmental understanding of grief\nPractical and creative strategies during school time\nStaff wellbeing and long-term considerations.\n\n  \nAdditionally\, providing an opportunity to learn more about the support we offer to bereaved families following a life-limiting condition or a sudden and unexpected death. \n  \nThe webinar will be held online via Zoom\, and a link will be sent by email prior to the webinar. The session includes a presentation and Q&A session held by our Arts therapists. This event is limited to a maximum of 30 participants and will be repeated during the Autumn term\, offering another opportunity to attend. \n  \nParticipants attending the full session will be able to receive the slides and a CPD certificate.

Its calm\, private setting offers a safe and welcoming place to pause and remember\, with comfortable spaces to sit together and connect with other families\, helping you feel supported throughout the day. \n  \nPlease make sure you RSVP to the specific Memory Day you plan to attend. You are welcome to choose the date and location that best suits you and your family. \n  \nOn the day\, you will be warmly welcomed with drinks and refreshments\, followed by a remembrance service. This includes candle lighting and a shared video montage\, offering time and space to reflect and remember together. DESCRIPTION:Memory Day is a special day to remember and treasure the life of your child. \n\n\n\n\n  \nWhether your child was supported by our hospice for many years\, you began receiving our care after they died\, or you are new to our service\, Memory Day is a day especially for you and your family. \n  \nThis year\, we are holding three Memory Day events: \n  \nFriday 19 June 2026 – Shooting Star House\, Hampton \nSaturday 20 June 2026 – Shooting Star House\, Hampton \n\n\nWednesday 24 June 2026 – Gate Street Barn\, Bramley (near Guildford) \n  \nPlease make sure you RSVP to the specific Memory Day you plan to attend. You are welcome to choose the date and location that best suits you and your family. \n  \nOn the day\, you will be warmly welcomed with drinks and refreshments\, followed by a remembrance service. This includes candle lighting and a shared video montage\, offering time and space to reflect and remember together. Afterwards\, we will provide lunch and invite you to take part in creating a keepsake in memory of your child. \n  \nYou will have the opportunity to request a personalised star for the Memory Tree in the Shooting Star House Memory Garden\, or a leaf for the Memory Tree in Christopher’s Memory Garden. DESCRIPTION:Take a moment to restore your mental wellbeing\, join us for fortnightly Breathe sessions.\nCreating a calm and grounding space for you\, in person and online.\nEach session we introduce guided therapeutic practices bringing balance\, reducing symptoms of emotional distress or sleep disruption that you may be experiencing. Breathe is a non-talking group\, led by one of our counsellors. \nAll parents of children with life-limiting conditions and are welcome to attend. Breathe is helpful if you need space for self-care or if you are experiencing extreme stress and symptoms of trauma.
