SUMMARY:Next Level - Bereaved Siblings Day
DESCRIPTION:A therapeutic day for bereaved siblings of children known to Shooting Star Children’s Hospices \nIt’s that time of year again where we would like to borrow the bereaved siblings (5+\, including teens!) for the day at Shooting Star House! Please drop off between 9.30am and 10am so we can start the day promptly. Pick up is at 3.30pm. \n\nOur siblings’ days help children find comfort in being with other bereaved siblings and a chance to make some new friends or meet up with ones they have met before. This half term’s theme is self-expression in the real world and virtual worlds.\n\nAmongst several therapeutic activities\, we will use fun gaming and music technology to TECH-spress ourselves as well as coming back to the “real” world for some reality pool games in the hydrotherapy pool! Our music therapist will teach us how to make our own music using GarageBand and we will be visited by “Gamerheads” the traveling game company to play the latest games and explore some new technology. Please note all games will be age appropriate and supervised at all times. Our day will start by exploring some ways in which we can stay safe when exploring the virtual world.\n\nActivities are supported by our team of therapists to ensure we give siblings the emotional support they need. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the therapeutic activities throughout the day.\n\nKit list:\n\n\n\nswimmers and a towel\nwaterproof coat\nwater bottle\npacked lunch/last night’s dinner in a Tupperware (NO NUTS or KIWI PLEASE)\nany medicines in a named bag and handed to staff on arrival\n\n\nWe try to encourage children to be independent and say goodbye in reception. Please let us know if you think your child might struggle and we can make sure a friendly face is there to greet them.

Upon arrival\, treat yourself to a glass of bubbles or a fresh orange juice and a pastry\, while connecting with other Mum’s. After crafting bath bombs\, body scrubs\, and lavender bags enjoy a lunch of sandwiches\, crisps\, fruit\, and sweet treats whilst a harpist plays for you. Wear comfortable clothing as you will be invited to join a relaxation session\, designed to promote peace and calm. \nThis event offers a unique opportunity for you to recharge\, feel pampered\, and form supportive relationships with other Mums. \nWe understand that schedules can change\, and it may be necessary to cancel\, so please let us know in advance to allow us to fill your place with another deserving Mum. Please do not book if you have already attended a pamper day this year\, to allow other mums to make use of this event. DESCRIPTION:Book a space for your child on our siblings day at the amazing Rugged Earth Adventure centre. The siblings will try all sorts of activities from Nerf guns\, den building\, campfire building and even cooking their own lunch! \nWear clothes and trainers you don’t mind getting muddy and wet. This event will carry on rain or shine- there are plenty of places to warm up and dry off. Water bottles\, waterproof coat\, hat and gloves if cold\, change of clothes and wellies are required. \nThere will be ample Shooting Star staff and volunteers\, so your child is well supervised and to ensure they get the most out of their session. \nPlease let us know of any dietary requirements\, allergies\, or medical needs. Please arrive a little early (10.40am) to fill in a siblings annual consent form where you can tell us about any medication etc. \nWe will run a waiting list for this event\, so please email familyevents@shootingstar.org.uk if you would like to be added to this list. \nPlease arrive promptly to collect your rugged adventurer at 3pm! \nProgramme\, 11am – 3pm: \n11.00: Welcome and briefing \n11.15: Nerf Battlefield \n12.00: Drink and biscuit break \n12.15: Bushcraft: Shelters and Survival fires \n13.00: Campfire lunch \n13.30: Axes and Arrows \n14.10 Marshmallow Smores \n14.30: Nerf Lazer Spec Ops \n14.55: Certificates and Farewell \nActivities: \nNerf Range: \nIssued with a camouflage jacket\, safety glasses\, and choice of favourite Nerf blaster. Two teams will play a variety of Nerf tag games on a purpose-built zone with barricades\, sandbags\, and camo nets. \nAxe Throwing: \nUsing rubber safety axes thrown at bristle targets to score points. \nSurvival fires: \nOne of the most important bushcraft and survival skills\, all will be taught its many uses and methods of lighting both modern and ancient. Cooking marshmallows over the fire is also included in this activity. \nSurvival Shelters: \nChildren will build a variety of improvised survival shelters using natural materials they gather from the land. Mini shelters are the perfect tool to demonstrate these skills. \nArchery: \nOne of the oldest skills known to man used for hunting and battle. More exciting than the average fixed point range children will stalk through the woods to find their targets using full-size bows and sucker dart arrows or mini crossbows. \nNerf Laser Ops: \nEquipped with a laser tag gun\, guests will play a variety of laser tag games\, both team and individual. All scores will be collected on a phone app to be relayed at the end of the games. \nCampfire Meal: \nGuests are served a fire cooked sausage bap and a variety of snacks including crisps\, fruit\, and chocolate whilst seated around the campfire. Things are about to get messy\, so please ensure you look closely at the kit list below. \nOur siblings’ days help children find comfort in being with other bereaved siblings and a chance to make some new friends or meet up with ones they have met before. \nAmongst several therapeutic activities\, we will be using the hydrotherapy pool for a splashy swimming session and are also lucky enough to be joined by Rocksteady\, who will be leading our siblings in a musical workshop! Activities are supported by our team of therapists to ensure we give siblings the emotional support they need. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the therapeutic activities throughout the day. \nKit list \n\nSwimmers and a towel\nWaterproof coat\nChange of clothes\nWater bottle\nPacked lunch/last night’s dinner in a Tupperware (NO NUTS or KIWI PLEASE)\nAny medicines in a named bag and handed to staff on arrival\n\n  \nWe try to encourage children to be independent and say goodbye in reception. Please let us know if you think your child might struggle and we can make sure a friendly face is there to greet them.

Please note this is for 5 plus 140cm or taller. This a great opportunity for siblings to come together and make new friends. If you are unsure if this event is for you\, please contact the Hospice and we can chat this through with you. \nPlease bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. Please don’t rely on the cafe\, as we won’t be in the main cafe area – we have our own dining area. Please no nuts. \nThere will be ample Shooting Star staff and volunteers\, so your child is well supervised and to ensure they get the most out of their session. \nSpecial socks will be provided\, that we must wear at all times when on the equipment. Please keep an eye on your emails if we are required to ask for a consent form. Please ensure you drop off your child to a member of staff\, please don’t drop off in the car park. We need to see an adult and check consent forms and contact numbers when you drop off. \nPlease drop off at 10am and the session will start at 10.30am. We have an hour’s session and then have a room booked to eat our packed lunch in. \nPlease arrive at 12.30pm to collect – look out for the Shooting Star staff wearing the branded clothing when you get there.

Please note this is an outside event\, so wrap up warm. Parking onsite\, if you can car share then we would recommend that you do. GU10 2HL. You will see a small island with a tree planted in the middle – just in front of the black metal gates \nWhen you arrive at the magical Silverbeck\, you will see black ornate gates and a buzzer \nBe sure to press the buzzer for Silverbeck (Not the Farm) \nWiggle your way down the driveway and keep going towards the barn. Parking is available but please park sensibly. We have families arriving after your hour slot as well! Note there is no ramp into the barn\, a slight step up\, so it might be a wiggle and a jiggle to get wheelchair users in\, but it’s possible! Very uneven ground and wellies/coats are recommended. Please save slots for the children\, so if you can manage with 1 adult ticket and the rest children in your group that would be magical! Thank you!
