Friends and relatives often feel deep grief\, but also uncertainty about what to say or how best to help\, often ending up saying nothing at all\, and leaving families even more isolated. This webinar offers a compassionate space for extended family members and friends to learn how to support loved ones through such a profound loss. \n  \nAbout the Session\nShooting Star Children’s Hospices is pleased to offer this new online session for those outside the immediate family. It is designed for friends\, aunts\, uncles\, siblings-in-law\, cousins\, and other important people in a bereaved family’s life. \n  \nLed by our qualified Counsellors\, the webinar will explore: \n\nWays to support loved ones following the death of a child\nApproaches that may bring comfort during grief\nHow to balance supporting others with looking after your own emotional wellbeing\n\n  \nParticipants will also have the opportunity to ask questions in a safe and supportive environment\, alongside others who understand the unique experience of supporting a grieving family.

We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. DESCRIPTION:Join other siblings (aged 5+) in the forest to make crafts from nature and test your fire lighting skills! \nWe are excited to be working with Bushy Tail Tribe to enjoy a 2-hour forest school session in the woods. We will be making crafts from natural resources\, having a go at fire lighting with flint and steel\, before cooking a hot snack over the fire. There will be some time at the end for free play and lunch! \nPlease arrive at 10.30am\, so we can start promptly. \nPlease note that this is an outside event\, so wear layers appropriate for the weather. Please bring a waterproof coat\, in case it rains. There is parking on-site. \nFurther Instructions: \nBushy Tail Tribe is based on 35 acres of privately owned woodland. As you turn off Lyne Lane\, there will be a sign for Fangrove Park. Drive down this road\, keeping the caravan park on your left. You will reach a sign saying Wesbrook Farm and Bushy Tail Tribe\, follow the arrow to the right\, through some wooden gates. Follow the road down until you reach a second pair of gates (with a Bushy Tail Tribe sign on the front). Go through these gates and follow the path down to the car park. There will be members of staff on hand to assist with directions to the car park. \nPlease book one space per sibling. Parents and families are welcome to stay on-site\, but there is minimal indoor space. \nPacking List: \n\nWaterproof boots/wellies/trainers (if not due to rain)\nLong-sleeve lightweight top – in hot weather\, we allow the children to wear a t-shirt\nThin trousers (pyjama bottoms are great – this is to protect them from stinging nettles and tick bites).\nSun hat\n\nIn bag: \n\nLightweight waterproof jacket\nThin waterproof trousers\nSun cream on before coming and have a bottle in your child’s bag\nWater bottle\nChange of clothes\nSnack\nPacked lunch\n\nThere will be time at the end of the session for the children to have their lunch and play.

Meet up with other families to share your experience or make memories on your own; it’s up to you. We have a yurt reserved between 11am-2pm for a break or lunch. A member of staff will be here during these times if you require any assistance. Bring your own lunch\, or there is food that you can purchase onsite. \nShooting Star staff will be on site from 10am until 3.30pm in branded uniform. During 11am and 2pm there will be a member of staff in the yurt at all times. \nTickets are for immediate family members only. Children under 18 must be with an adult. \nPlease book a ticket for each immediate family member known to SSCH who will be with you. We may not be able to supply your desired number of tickets if you do not book the correct number of tickets on Eventbrite. \nYour Eventbrite confirmation email is NOT your ticket. A member of the team will confirm that you have been successful in your request once we have seen your request. \nCarers do not need to request a ticket; they can enter for free. DESCRIPTION:Take time for yourself and enjoy crafts and an afternoon tea at Shooting Star House.\n\n\n\nEnjoy an afternoon tea\, take time for yourself\, recharge and chat with other mums. \nWe will have time to do some mindful crafts\, such as making bath bombs\, lip balms and jewellery\, maybe even some cake decorating. \nThere will also be the opportunity to get your hair and/or nails done by volunteer beauty specialists. This will be offered in a drop-in style\, with time available throughout the afternoon for you to receive these treatments. \nMid-afternoon\, we will have a break for some afternoon tea\, with sandwiches\, cakes and (of course) tea! Enjoy a glass of prosecco or nosecco\, whichever takes your fancy. \nWe look forward to welcoming you for a pre-Mother’s Day treat\, with lots of relaxing plans.

SUMMARY:Bereaved Parents Support Group (in person)
DESCRIPTION:Runs once per month from 5th March – 13th August  2026.\nWe really value offering a safe and supportive space for our families. Our Parent support group is facilitated by a qualified Counsellor and led by you.\n\nTogether we’ll commit to creating a compassionate and non-judgmental environment\, where parents can share experiences\, learn from each other\, and find support in coping with your grief.\n\nThe 6-session support group will run at the same time every month.  This is an in-person group at Shooting Star House.\n\n\nThose who have attended our Bereaved Parents Support Group have said how helpful it is to learn from each other and support each other. You can attend as an individual\, or some choose to attend as a couple. It is important that you can attend most (ideally all) of the 6 sessions:\n\nThursday 5 March\nThursday 6 April\nThursday 7 May\nThursday 4 June\nThursday 9 July\nThursday 13 August

DESCRIPTION:A fun day for bereaved and supported siblings to do some exciting magic-themed activities!\n\n\n\nSiblings’ holiday club is set to be a brilliant\, fun-packed day. With so many fun activities planned (5+\, including teens) at Shooting Star House. Throughout the day\, children will take part in wonderous magic themed activities\, crafts and swimming\, with activities adapted to ensure they are age-appropriate and fun for all. \nPlease drop off at 10am\, pick up is at 3.30pm. \nOur siblings’ club helps children find comfort in being with other siblings and a chance to make some new friends or meet up with ones they have met before. \nActivities are supported by our Events and Family Support staff to ensure there is a familiar face to welcome everyone. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the activities throughout the day. \nKit list: \n\nWaterproof coat\nWater bottle\nPacked lunch/last night’s dinner in a tupperware (NO NUTS or KIWI PLEASE)\nAny medicines in a named bag and handed to staff on arrival\nSwimming Kit (we will have spares if needed)\n\nWe try to encourage children to be independent and say goodbye in reception. Please let us know if you think your child might struggle\, and we can make sure a friendly face is there to greet them.

SUMMARY:Bereaved Parents Support Group (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Runs once per month from Feb 5 – July 9\, 2026.\n\nWe really value offering a safe and supportive space for our families. Our Parent support group is facilitated by a qualified Counsellor and led by you.\n\nTogether we’ll commit to creating a compassionate and non-judgmental environment\, where parents can share experiences\, learn from each other\, and find support in coping with your grief.\n\nThe 6-session support group will run at the same time every month.  This is a  virtual group\, there will also be an in person group at Shooting Star House.\n\n\nThose who have attended our Bereaved Parents Support Group have said how helpful it is to learn from each other and support each other. You can attend as an individual\, or some choose to attend as a couple. It is important that you can attend most (ideally all) of the 6 sessions:\n  \n\nThursday 5 February\nThursday 5 March\nThursday 6 April\nThursday 7 May\nThursday 4 June\nThursday 9 July

SUMMARY:Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House
DESCRIPTION:Our doors are open on Thursday mornings\, welcoming families to drop-in to our Bereavement Café at Shooting Star House\, our Bereavement Centre. There is coffee\, cake and fruit and our Family Support Workers are there to chat\, listen\, or just be with you if you don’t feel able to speak. Everyone welcome\, including siblings\, grandparents\, or a different friend or family member. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. We will gather in the dining room\, but please note that hospice day-to-day practice will continue at Shooting Star House.\nAfter cafe\, you are welcome to stay as long as you wish to continue conversations. Our building closes at 5pm. \nIf you would like to bring a pet to a cafe\, please complete the pet request form at least a week in advance. \nNo need to RSVP.

DESCRIPTION:Take a moment to restore your mental wellbeing\, join us for weekly Breathe sessions.\nCreating a calm and grounding space for you\, in person and online.\nEach week we introduce a different technique bringing balance\, reducing symptoms of emotional distress or sleep disruption that you may be experiencing. Breathe is not a talking group\, it’s led by one of our counsellors through guided therapeutic practices. \nAll parents of children with life-limiting conditions and are welcome to attend. Breathe is helpful if you need space for self-care\, or if you are experiencing extreme stress and symptoms of trauma. \nIf you’d like to attend Breathe\, click Enquire and a counsellor will call you to chat through the next steps.
