DESCRIPTION:All parents and carers of Shooting Star are invited to our Parent Carer Forum\, which takes place four times a year on Zoom. Everyone is welcome to this informal meeting – and encouraged to bring a cup of tea and snacks! \nAt our forum\, we tell you about new ideas we have\, and ask your opinion about changing and growing aspects of our care. Being able to talk to you about the care you receive helps us know what works well and what we can improve. We’re grateful to every parent and carer who gives us their time by attending the forum. This helps ensure that the care we provide is as meaningful as possible for all the families of Shooting Star. \nPlease come along if you are free. \nZoom details will be shared via text on the day – there’s no need to RSVP.

DESCRIPTION:Official Scout Group – at Christopher’s for children and young people with a life-limiting condition aged 6+. \nWe would love to invite a small group of young people who are aged 6+ to embark on their Scouting journey. Scouting is an all-inclusive youth group that welcomes young people of all abilities. Our Scout Group is affiliated with the 9th Guildford Scout Group. \n  \nScouting is accessible to all and focuses on making reasonable adjustments to activities\, badges\, and awards to ensure everyone can participate and thrive. This includes working with parents and carers to understand individual needs and provide appropriate support. At Scouts\, we’re open to all. Our main priority is to make sure that everyone\, be that our young people or our volunteers\, feels welcome and comfortable to take part. \n  \nParents/carers will need to stay with their young people for the session\, and drinks and biscuits will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Take a moment to restore your mental wellbeing\, join us for fortnightly Breathe sessions.\nCreating a calm and grounding space for you\, in person and online.\nEach session we introduce guided therapeutic practices bringing balance\, reducing symptoms of emotional distress or sleep disruption that you may be experiencing. Breathe is a non-talking group\, led by one of our counsellors. \nAll parents of children with life-limiting conditions and are welcome to attend. Breathe is helpful if you need space for self-care or if you are experiencing extreme stress and symptoms of trauma.

DESCRIPTION:Join other siblings (aged 5+) for a special day out at Bocketts Farm Park with the chance to explore the farm\, meet a wide variety of animals and enjoy indoor and outdoor play. \nThe day will include a guided farm experience with activities such as a tractor and trailer ride\, a small animal encounter session and the chance to explore areas including the Stable Yard\, Animal Discovery Barn and Farm Walk. There will also be time to enjoy the outdoor play areas and see even more animals. \nChildren will be supported and supervised by Shooting Star staff throughout the day. This visit is designed to be a fun and relaxed experience\, with children welcome to take part in as much or as little as feels right for them. \nProvisional itinerary: \n\nDrop off: 10:00am (please arrive promptly)\nGuided farm experience including tractor ride and animal encounters\nLunch together\nPig race\nFree time to explore and play (supervised by staff)\nPick up: 14:00\n\n  \nImportant information: \n\nThe visit will take place outdoors\, so please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.\nPlease bring a packed lunch and drinks for your child.\nHand washing facilities are available across the farm and will be encouraged regularly\, especially after contact with animals.\nFree parking is available on-site.\n\nIf your child has any additional requirements\, please let us know when booking so we can support you as fully as possible. \nWe hope this will be a fun day out for all our siblings!

SUMMARY:Garden at Christopher's open for National Garden Scheme
DESCRIPTION:This August\, Christopher’s will be opening the garden for the National Garden Scheme for the second time! \nOriginally set up in 1927 to support district nurses\, the National Garden Scheme now raises millions of pounds for nursing and health charities each year\, including Hospice UK\, who received a £450\,000 donation in 2024. \nAs our families will know\, the garden has been specifically designed with the needs of the children we support in mind\, from adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas and quiet corners to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices were delighted to welcome a beautiful addition to the garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin. The flowers were donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal-winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, which award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes designed with sustainability at its heart. \nWe would love for you to join us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s alongside members of the public; refreshments will be available. \nSupported families go FREE to this event. If you would like to attend\, please fill out the form by clicking the ‘RSVP’ link. Equally\, we are happy for supported families to join us on the day without prior commitment\, but please make yourself known to a member of staff upon arrival\, so you are not charged entry. \nHowever\, if you wish to support the National Garden Scheme\, you can purchase a ticket on the day\, but please do not feel obliged to do so. \nAdults: £5\nChildren: FREE

An event for siblings 12+ to build friendships and have fun!\n\n\n\nThis unique 5-day residential sailing trip is for supported and bereaved siblings who are aged 12 or older. \nHosted by Ocean Youth Trust aboard the sailing vessel Prolific\, the voyage offers an incredible opportunity for young people to learn new skills\, gain independence\, and connect with others who share similar experiences. \nThis trip provides a safe\, supportive space for siblings to relax\, share experiences and simply be themselves.
