DESCRIPTION:Thames Sailability provides accessible boating for wheelchair users. \nThames Sailability’s specially adapted motorboat\, “Impossible Dream”\, allows its passengers to enjoy boating on the Thames. They have a boarding ramp for access by users of wheelchairs\, powered chairs\, and people with reduced mobility\, and a safe covered cabin area….with central heating! \nImpossible Dream sails all year round and has skilled and trained crew to help us. \nWe are offering this to children and young people who would benefit from this as a sensory experience. \nThe sound of the water lapping the front of the boat\, the wildlife that we pass\, and maybe even the rain on the roof of the Impossible Dream’s awning. \nSpace is limited so we are offering space for 2 wheelchair users and a parent or carer each. There is an opportunity to transfer onto a bench or chair if that is appropriate but rest assured chairs can board the board and stay on for the duration of the trip. \nWhilst on the boat\, we ask that the young person and carer remains seated at all times\, for safety reasons this is very important. We will review all the RSVPs and ensure that our care team are in agreement that this event is safe for you to attend. \nWe can’t wait to see you there. Dame Joan would be delighted to have tea and cake with everyone and is so very much looking forward to returning to see everyone. Dame Joan has supported the charity since 2003 and holds the charity very close to her heart. This will be a very special visit. \nAll are welcome\, please do bring along grandparents\, aunties\, and\, uncles\, and of course siblings too. SUMMARY:Next Level - Siblings Day
DESCRIPTION:A therapeutic day for siblings of our supported children.\n\n\nIt’s that time of year again where we would like to borrow the Siblings (5+\, including teens!) of children who are currently receiving our support for the day at Shooting Star House! \nPlease drop off between 9.30am and 10am so we can start the day promptly. Pick up is at 3.30pm. \nOur siblings’ days help children find comfort in being with other siblings and a chance to make some new friends or meet up with ones they have met before. This half term’s theme is self-expression in the real world and virtual worlds. \nAmongst several therapeutic activities\, we will use fun gaming and music technology to TECH-spress ourselves as well as coming back to the “real” world for some pool games in the hydrotherapy pool and a fun movement workshop! Our music therapist will teach us how to make our own music using some exciting “garage band” software and we will be visited by Gamerheads the traveling game company to play the latest games and explore some new technology. Please note all games will be age appropriate and supervised at all time. Our day will start by exploring some ways in which we can stay safe when exploring the virtual word. \nActivities are supported by our team of therapists to ensure we give siblings the emotional support they need. Please dont hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the therapeutic activites throughout the day. \nKit list \n\nswimmers and a towel\nwaterproof coat\nwater bottle\npacked lunch/last night’s dinner in a Tupperware..(NO NUTS or KIWI PLEASE)\nany medicines in a named bag and handed to staff on arrival\n\nWe try to encourage children to be independent and say goodbye in reception. Please let us know if you think your child might struggle and we can make sure a friendly face is there to greet them. \n*Please note that this event is not for bereaved siblings\, please see our separate event tailored specifically to bereaved siblings.

DESCRIPTION:This is an opportunity to meet with other Grandparents to share experiences\, learn from each other\, and participate in a craft activity that you can later do with your Grandchild. This day is run by the Counselling team at Shooting Star. \nThe plan for the day: \n10.30 – Grandparents arrive. Refreshments – Cakes\, Tea\, Coffee\, and soft drinks will be available. \n11.00 -13.00 – Opportunity to: \n\nTalk with others who understand about being a grandparent of a child with an illness/disability.\nInformation sharing and gaining support from each other\nParticipate in creative activities you can do with your grandchildren and for yourself.\n\n13.00 – Light Lunch \n14.00 – 14.30 – Optional tour of the hospice and free time to socialise. \nIf you would like to know more about what to expect then please don’t hesitate to contact carolyn.turner@shootingstar.org.uk. \nPlease make us aware if you are not able to attend last minute so that we can open up your ticket to another Grandparent.

Mini shelters are the perfect tool to demonstrate these skills. \nArchery: \nOne of the oldest skills known to man used for hunting and battle. More exciting than the average fixed point range children will stalk through the woods to find their targets using full-size bows and sucker dart arrows or mini crossbows. \nNerf Laser Ops: \nEquipped with a laser tag gun\, guests will play a variety of laser tag games\, both team and individual. Activities are supported by our team of therapists to ensure we give siblings the emotional support they need. Kick start your festive period with Rudolf and his friends\nFather Christmas’s reindeers are getting ready to go to the North Pole soon\, but before they go they wanted to invite our special families to come and see them. \nWe hope you can make it. Wheelchair friendly\, but a little off roading required. Please note this is an outside event\, so wrap up warm. Parking onsite\, if you can car share then we would recommend that you do. GU10 2HL. You will see a small island with a tree planted in the middle – just infront of the black metal gates \nWhen you arrive at the magical Silverbeck\, you will see black ornate gates and a buzzer \nBe sure to press the buzzer for Silverbeck (Not the Farm) \nWiggle your way down the driveway and keep going towards the barn. Parking is available but please park sensibly. We have families arriving after your hour slot as well! Note there is no ramp into the barn\, a slight step up\, so it might be a wiggle and a jiggle to get wheelchair users in\, but its possible! Very uneven ground and wellies/coats reccomended . Please save slots for the children\, so if you can manage with 1 adult ticket and the rest children in your group that would be magical! Thank you!
