DESCRIPTION:A long awaited opportunity for cognitively able supported youths (11+) to reunite for a day packed with outdoor adventure & fun! \nIt’s been a while since we’ve been able to host a youth group face to face\, so we’re bringing it back with a bang! Join us at Thames Young Mariners Outdoor Education Centre for an exciting opportunity to try new experiences and hang out with old mates & new.  Book now to avoid disappointment\, as numbers are limited. Ticket availability closes Monday 8/11. \nActivities are likely to include survival skills\, orienteering and archery\, amongst possible others. All activities will be adaptive to ensure everyone can take part. Our new Virtual Youth Group is an opportunity for teenagers to meet up with their Youth Group friends for some (hopefully!) fun activities on a regular basis. \nIt’s also an opportunity for supported teens to communicate with their peers whilst self-isolating and to talk in a safe environment about any anxieties they may have. The group will include fun activities\, coping strategies and will help supported teenagers to build self-esteem and confidence…like they would at our more traditional Youth Group. \nThis event is specifically for supported cognitively able young people aged 12-18 years. You or your parents will receive an invitation via text with information on how to RSVP.

SUMMARY:Sensory Day at Christopher's
DESCRIPTION:Sensory Days are specifically for children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties between the ages of 5 and 21\, and their families. \nSensory days generally run in the school holidays and are a chance for the whole family to be involved in a fun session and have the opportunity to explore and experience appropriate sensory activities together. \nSensory Days are usually divided into two sessions: a morning session for children between 5 and 10 years and an afternoon session for children 11 years and older. \nEach session is a fun and interactive time using a mix of sensory and craft activities around a theme for the day such as ‘The Seaside’ or ‘Fun at the Fair’ with a break for refreshments. \nThe days gives families the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation and experience new skills using sensory activities that they can use at home. \nPlease be aware that all event dates are provisional and will be confirmed in the event invitation.

DESCRIPTION:Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is widely used in many educational and social environments and many of the children at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices benefit from it. \nAt Friendly Hands Makaton and Music Sessions you can learn key Makaton signs in a relaxed\, informal manner. Our team prepare a popular song and find specific words within the lyrics that are valuable for us to know how to sign. \nAt Friendly Hands you can learn the signs and enjoy practicing them within the song.
