DESCRIPTION:This August\, Christopher’s will be opening for the National Garden Scheme for a fourth year! \nOriginally set up in 1927 to support district nurses\, the National Garden Scheme now raises millions of pounds for nursing and health charities each year\, including Hospice UK\, who received a £450\,000 donation in 2025. \nThe garden space at Christopher’s is particularly enjoyed by families\, having been specifically designed with the needs of the children in mind. From adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices were delighted to welcome a beautiful garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin to their Guildford based hospice\, Christopher’s. The garden was donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, that award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes\, designed with sustainability at its heart. \nJoin us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s with refreshments available. \nAdult admission: £5 \nChildren: FREE \nYou can book tickets on the National Garden Scheme website or pay at the gate on the day. Here\, families can access bereavement support\, counselling\, therapies\, drop-in sessions\, sibling groups\, family activities\, interactive play sessions\, and one-to-one support from our dedicated family support workers. The impact of their work is truly life-changing\, and we would love for you to see first-hand the difference it makes. \nWhile our overnight care takes place at our Guildford hospice\, Christopher’s\, alongside a wide range of therapies and activities\, this Open Day will focus on Shooting Star House. Although Christopher’s won’t be open to visit on the day\, our team will be very happy to chat with you about the vital work happening there. \nDuring your visit\, you can enjoy complimentary food and drink\, take part in fundraising activities\, and enter our raffle for the chance to win some fantastic prizes. There will also be stalls to browse and plenty of opportunities to speak with members of our team. \nWe have two bookable time slots available on Friday 12 June: \n\n10:00am \n11:00am \n\nThese time slots help us manage the flow of visitors and ensure everyone has the chance to connect with our team. DESCRIPTION:Please join us in celebrating and remembering the lives of your loved ones at our Light up a Star service. This remembrance service will include poems\, music and a moment of reflection as we all come together to light lanterns in memory of a loved one. The service will be followed by light refreshments\, a Christmas stall and a chance to talk and connect with each other. \nTickets are £5 (free for 12 and under) and include a Remembrance Lantern. Your Remembrance Lantern will be posted to you ahead of the event. We would encourage you to decorate your lantern in memory of your loved one and bring it with you to the service. \nIf you are unable to join us on the day the event will also be livestreamed on the All Saints Church Hampton YouTube page\, and will be available to watch later. Additionally\, if you would like to light a lantern at home instead of attending then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via supportercare@shootingstar.org.uk. \nThis year\, we are delighted to say that you can pre-order some Christmas knitted novelties ahead of the service. You will find this option on the booking page. There will also be an opportunity to purchase Christmas cards and knitted novelties at the end of the service. The knitted novelties have been generously made for us by supporters and all proceeds will go towards Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. \nAs you may already know\, it costs £12 million a year to run Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Just 29% of our funding comes from the government\, so we rely on our supporters’ generosity to keep our vital care service running. DESCRIPTION:Join #TeamShootingStar as we take to the skies together! \nOn the scenic flight up you’ll take in views of the beautiful and historical Wiltshire countryside\, viewing sights of major prehistoric significance including the Iron Age hill fort of Old Sarum and\, depending on wind direction\, the world heritage site of Stonehenge. \nYou will be strapped to an experienced skydiver before beginning your 10\,000 feet freefall\, for a ground-rushing 30 seconds! This is followed by a magical 5 minute parachute ride\, as you glide back to earth\, with amazing views across the stunning Salisbury Plains. \nYou won’t be doing this skydive alone either – we have a whole team taking to the skies today to raise money for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. \n“I really enjoyed it. Free falling is incredible. It seemed to take quite a while to come down. Parallel Windsor is a celebration of disability lifestyle\, welcoming everybody of all ages\, health conditions & abilities. The format of the event is a fully accessible Festival of Inclusivity with Challenge Events for everybody! \nRegardless of age\, health condition or ability there is a challenge for everyone. Distances include: 100m\, 1K\, 5K\, 10K & our ever popular SuperSensory. Our spirit of ‘Start Together; Finish Whenever’ means that there are no cut-off times & everyone who starts receives a medal\, t-shirt & goody bag. Assistance animals & mobility aids are welcome. The innovative SuperSensory supports neurodiversity & participants with profound & multiple learning disabilities to exercise their senses over a series of challenges such as engaging with sound\, taste\, touch & smell. This year will also see the return of the Greatest Dancer Challenge\, a mass participation dance for everyone to show off their best moves. \nThe award-winning & fully accessible festival is a day of inclusive entertainment for the whole family; featuring an outdoor music stage\, animal kingdom\, climbing wall\, storytelling\, inclusive sport\, cookery\, arts & crafts\, comedy\, yoga & wellbeing\, dance\, picnic area & street food. \nThe festival also includes a quiet space and sensory zone\, and is supported by accessible facilities\, including RevoLoos\, on-site parking and medical provision.
