DESCRIPTION:Join us for a 3-hour interactive online workshop on Advance Care Planning and RESPECT documentation\, led by members of the Specialist Paediatric Palliative Care Team. \nAre you a health care professional working in paediatric or neonatal care who feels hesitant or uncertain about beginning conversations around advance care planning? \nThis workshop offers a supportive space to learn best practices – from understanding the legal and ethical principles\, to practical exercises on communication and exploration of end-of-life wishes.  This session combines subject- experts\, case-studies and discussion.  The aim is to build confidence and competence in completing ACP and RESPECT documentation correctly and sensitively.

There is coffee\, cake and fruit and our Family Support Workers are there to chat\, listen\, or just be with you if you don’t feel able to speak. Everyone welcome\, including siblings\, grandparents\, or a different friend or family member. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. Scouting is an all-inclusive youth group that welcomes young people of all abilities. Our Scout Group is affiliated with the 9th Guildford Scout Group. \nScouting is accessible to all and focuses on making reasonable adjustments to activities\, badges\, and awards to ensure everyone can participate and thrive. This includes working with parents and carers to understand individual needs and provide appropriate support. At Scouts\, we’re open to all. Our main priority is to make sure that everyone\, be that our young people or our volunteers\, feels welcome and comfortable to take part. \nParents/carers will need to stay with their young people for the session\, and drinks and biscuits will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:A fun day for our bereaved and supported siblings to come together for a day of detective mischief! \n\n\n\n\nSiblings’ holiday club is set to be a brilliant\, fun-packed day. With so many fun activities planned (5+\, including teens) at Shooting Star House. Throughout the day\, children will aim to solve the Shooting Star mystery! Who did it? Where? How? All will be revealed through detective-themed activities\, crafts and games\, with activities adapted to ensure they are age-appropriate and fun for all. \nPlease drop off at 10am\, pick up is at 3.30pm. \nOur siblings’ club helps children find comfort in being with other siblings and a chance to make some new friends or meet up with ones they have met before. \nActivities are supported by our Events and Family Support staff to ensure there is a familiar face to welcome everyone. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the activities throughout the day. \nKit list: \n\nWaterproof coat\nWater bottle\nPacked lunch/last night’s dinner in a tupperware (NO NUTS or KIWI PLEASE)\nAny medicines in a named bag and handed to staff on arrival\n\nWe try to encourage children to be independent and say goodbye in reception. Please let us know if you think your child might struggle\, and we can make sure a friendly face is there to greet them. \nWe are currently unable to offer swimming at our Siblings Day\, due to the pool at Shooting Star House being out of action. We hope this will be available at future events.

Being able to talk to you about the care you receive helps us know what works well and what we can improve. We’re grateful to every parent and carer who gives us their time by attending the forum. From adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices were delighted to welcome a beautiful garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin to their Guildford based hospice\, Christopher’s. The garden was donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, that award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes\, designed with sustainability at its heart. \nJoin us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s with refreshments available. \nAdult admission: £5 \nChildren: FREE \nYou can book tickets on the National Garden Scheme website or pay at the gate on the day.
