SUMMARY:Open Day at Shooting Star House
DESCRIPTION:To kick off Children’s Hospice Week\, we are delighted to open our doors to Shooting Star House\, our hospice in Hampton!\nThis is a fantastic chance to explore our facilities\, meet our incredible Family Support team\, and learn about the specialist support we offer to families with a child or young person facing a life-limiting condition or who have been bereaved. \nShooting Star House is our Outreach\, Therapies and Family Support Centre where families can access bereavement support\, counselling\, therapies\, drop-in sessions\, sibling groups\, family activities and interactive play sessions\, and meet with our team of family support workers. The work they do truly transforms the lives of the families we care for\, and we would love for you to come and see the difference it makes first-hand. \nOur commitment doesn’t end at Hampton’s gates. Our Guildford hospice\, Christopher’s\, is where our overnight care is provided\, as well as a comprehensive range of therapies and activities. Though you won’t be visiting Christopher’s during our open day\, we would be more than happy to chat about the brilliant work happening there with you during your visit. \nWe have two bookable slots available on Friday 13 June. Our first slot is from 10:00am-11:00am\, and our second slot is from 11am-12 noon. These slots are designed to help manage the flow of visitors around the building and ensure we do not exceed capacity. However\, you’re welcome to stay on after your time slot and enjoy refreshments\, games and visiting our stalls until the hospice closes to the public at 1:30pm. \nIf you have any questions about the day\, please take a look at our FAQ’s. You can also contact the supporter development team by email supportercare@shootingstar.org.uk or by phone 01932 823115.

SUMMARY:Pamper Day for bereaved mums whose child was aged 1 or less
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a day of relaxation and rejuvenation\, where the focus is solely on taking time for yourself. \nExperience the peace of our tranquil treatment room as you receive 30–40 minutes of reflexology or an aromatherapy back massage\, tailored to your needs. Please note\, whilst we will try and ensure you receive your first choice of treatment\, this may not be possible so we require that you would be happy with either treatment. \nAdditionally\, treatments cannot be given if you are in your first trimester of pregnancy. \nUpon arrival\, treat yourself to a glass of bubbles or a fresh orange juice and a pastry\, while connecting with other mums. After crafting bath bombs\, body scrubs\, foot lotion and lavender bags\, you can enjoy a lunch of sandwiches\, crisps\, fruit and sweet treats. \nWear comfortable clothing as you will be invited to join a relaxation session\, designed to promote peace and calm. \nThis event offers a unique opportunity for you to recharge\, feel pampered and form supportive relationships with other mums. \nWe understand that schedules can change\, and it may be necessary to cancel\, so please let us know in advance to allow us to fill your place with another deserving mum. \nAt our Pamper Day\, we believe that everyone needs a little time for themselves\, and we can’t wait to create an atmosphere of relaxation\, support and wellbeing. \nPlease do not sign up for this event if you are already having complimentary therapy with the team at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. We would also ask that if you have attended a Pamper Day in the last 12 months\, that you leave these spaces for other mums who have not yet been. Thank you for your understanding.

SUMMARY:Sailing Social for supported young people
DESCRIPTION:This event is for supported young people aged 10 upwards. \nFrensham Sailability say: \n“Our sailors frequently comment that\, when sailing\, they are freed from their limitations and can compete on equal terms with any able-bodied sailor. We help you do this by providing a range of specially designed boats and the necessary support facilities. With the help of our experienced volunteers\, you can learn to sail\, or enjoy sailing again\, and develop your skills as far as you wish – to international competition level if you want!” \nNo previous experience of sailing is necessary\, but the use of hands is required. \nNew sailors can go out with an experienced ‘buddy’ who will explain what sailing involves. However\, our mission is to encourage independent sailing as much as possible. Frensham Pond provides a uniquely safe environment for this. \nThis is an opportunity for your children to experience sailing and the freedom of being in control of their boat. They will have the opportunity to go out on a 1-1 smaller boat with an experienced volunteer and in a bigger group boat if their mobility allows.” \nAll safety equipment and wet weather gear is provided\, along with access to the clubhouse where parents and carers are welcome to stay for the duration or can spectate from dry land. Please know that this event requires parents and caregivers to remain on site at all times\, and they are responsible for the care of the young people at all times \nPlease bring along a packed lunch and any medical equipment (we will provide cake and snacks)\, a change of clothes and a towel (good old British weather may mean we sail in the rain). \nThis opportunity is suitable for young people aged 10 and over who would enjoy socialising with others.

SUMMARY:Siblings' Base Camp
DESCRIPTION:Runs Monday 11 August – Wednesday 13 August\nBooking for Base Camp will close at 5pm on Friday 25 July \nThis August we are excited to be offering our very first Siblings’ Base Camp. This 3-day creative experience is a chance for bereaved siblings to form their very own music band and create music as a way to process grief. \nSupported by our creative and music therapists\, they will be writing and recording their own songs to process the difficult experiences that come with loss and grief\, in a safe\, fun and caring environment. Being able to get to know and share with each other can help bereaved siblings feel less alone. \nIf you are the parent or carer of a bereaved child or young person aged between 5-17 years old who may benefit from attending\, please click Enquire to register your interest and a children’s therapist will be in touch to help you decide if this group is suitable. \nPlease note it is important that everyone can attend all 3 days for this event so they can have the full experience. Transport can be provided.
