DESCRIPTION:Memory Day is a special day to remember and treasure the life of your child. \n\n\n\n\n  \nWhether your child was supported by our hospice for many years\, you began receiving our care after they died\, or you are new to our service\, Memory Day is a day especially for you and your family. \n  \nThis year\, we are holding three Memory Day events: \n  \nFriday 19 June 2026 – Shooting Star House\, Hampton \nSaturday 20 June 2026 – Shooting Star House\, Hampton \nWednesday 24 June 2026 – Gate Street Barn\, Bramley (near Guildford) \n  \nWe are pleased that one of our Memory Day events will take place at Gate Street Barn in Bramley\, a peaceful countryside venue surrounded by open fields and woodland. Its calm\, private setting offers a safe and welcoming place to pause and remember\, with comfortable spaces to sit together and connect with other families\, helping you feel supported throughout the day. \n  \nPlease make sure you RSVP to the specific Memory Day you plan to attend. You are welcome to choose the date and location that best suits you and your family. \n  \nOn the day\, you will be warmly welcomed with drinks and refreshments\, followed by a remembrance service. This includes candle lighting and a shared video montage\, offering time and space to reflect and remember together. Afterwards\, we will provide lunch and invite you to take part in creating a keepsake in memory of your child. \n  \nYou will have the opportunity to request a personalised star for the Memory Tree in the Shooting Star House Memory Garden\, or a leaf for the Memory Tree in Christopher’s Memory Garden. Each star or leaf will be engraved with your child’s name and you will be able to place them on the tree when you next visit the hospice. A link to the request form will be shared in your order confirmation email. \n\nPlease RSVP by Friday 29 May 2026.\n  \nWe very much hope you can join us for one of our Memory Day events. We invite you to come as you are\, no matter how you might be feeling. Parking is on-site. Just pull up to the gates to be let in. Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. The cafe provides a safe space where they can make crafts and keepsakes\, and talk to others about how grief can make you feel.  If you would like to bring a group of pupils from your school to our centre\, please contact us before attending. \nIf you’d like to ask any questions\, please email familysupport@shootingstar.org.uk \nShooting Star realise the importance of a support network and wants to do anything we can to help build that. DESCRIPTION:A webinar for school professionals offering guidance supporting children and young people who have experienced the death of a sibling. \n\n\n\n\n  \nThis webinar will focus on practical guidance\, trauma-informed perspectives\, and creative strategies for supporting bereaved children and young people in primary and secondary school settings. Topics will include: \n\nCommunication with children\, families\, and professionals\nDevelopmental understanding of grief\nPractical and creative strategies during school time\nStaff wellbeing and long-term considerations.\n\n  \nAdditionally\, providing an opportunity to learn more about the support we offer to bereaved families following a life-limiting condition or a sudden and unexpected death. \n  \nThe webinar will be held online via Zoom\, and a link will be sent by email prior to the webinar. The session includes a presentation and Q&A session held by our Arts therapists. This event is limited to a maximum of 30 participants and will be repeated during the Autumn term\, offering another opportunity to attend. \n  \nParticipants attending the full session will be able to receive the slides and a CPD certificate.

Stay as long or as little as you wish. \nSchools are welcome to bring groups of pupils who knew a child who has died to attend as a one-off\, or for successive weeks. Teachers usually identify a small group of pupils who were close to the child who has died. DESCRIPTION:Runs Monday 27 July – Wednesday 29 July\nThis July we are excited to be offering our Siblings’ Band Camp for a second year. This 3-day creative experience is a chance for bereaved siblings to come together and form their own music band\, using creativity and music as a way to explore and express their grief. \nSupported by our creative and music therapists\, they will be writing and recording their own songs to process the difficult experiences that come with loss and grief\, in a safe\, fun and caring environment. Being able to get to know and share with each other can help bereaved siblings feel less alone. \nWith support from our experienced creative and music therapists\, children and young people will work together to write and record their own songs. The sessions are designed to provide a safe\, supportive and enjoyable space where they can process difficult feelings\, build confidence and connect with others who have had similar experiences. Sharing time together in this way can help siblings feel understood and less alone.\n\n\nIf you are a parent or carer of a bereaved child or young person aged 5–17 who may benefit from attending\, please click “Enquire” to register your interest. A children’s therapist will then be in touch to talk through whether this group is the right fit. \nPlease note that it’s important for participants to attend all three days to gain the full benefit of the programme. SUMMARY:Christopher's opening for the National Garden Scheme
DESCRIPTION:This August\, Christopher’s will be opening for the National Garden Scheme for a fourth year! \nOriginally set up in 1927 to support district nurses\, the National Garden Scheme now raises millions of pounds for nursing and health charities each year\, including Hospice UK\, who received a £450\,000 donation in 2025. \nThe garden space at Christopher’s is particularly enjoyed by families\, having been specifically designed with the needs of the children in mind. From adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices were delighted to welcome a beautiful garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin to their Guildford based hospice\, Christopher’s. The garden was donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, that award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes\, designed with sustainability at its heart. \nJoin us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s with refreshments available. \nAdult admission: £5 \nChildren: FREE \nYou can book tickets on the National Garden Scheme website or pay at the gate on the day. SUMMARY:Garden at Christopher's open for National Garden Scheme
DESCRIPTION:This August\, Christopher’s will be opening the garden for the National Garden Scheme for the second time! \nOriginally set up in 1927 to support district nurses\, the National Garden Scheme now raises millions of pounds for nursing and health charities each year\, including Hospice UK\, who received a £450\,000 donation in 2024. \nAs our families will know\, the garden has been specifically designed with the needs of the children we support in mind\, from adapted play equipment and sensory trails to open areas and quiet corners to sit and reflect. In 2022\, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices were delighted to welcome a beautiful addition to the garden courtesy of wealth-management company Brewin Dolphin. The flowers were donated and repurposed from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show silver-medal-winning Brewin Dolphin garden\, which award-winning garden designer\, Paul Hervey-Brookes designed with sustainability at its heart. \nWe would love for you to join us on Sunday 2 August\, 12pm-4pm to enjoy the garden at Christopher’s alongside members of the public; refreshments will be available. \nSupported families go FREE to this event. If you would like to attend\, please fill out the form by clicking the ‘RSVP’ link.
