About the Charity

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across London and Surrey.  We help families make every moment count by supporting them from diagnosis to end of life and through bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional, and medical care.

Our bespoke support is free of charge to families and includes access to our team of family support workers, a comprehensive range of therapies for the whole family, specialist nursing care providing symptom management, respite, end of life care and bereavement support.  The charity has two purpose-built hospices, Christopher’s in Guildford, and Shooting Star House in Hampton, offering the very best in specialist facilities and equipment in a comfortable, homely, and friendly environment.

Our care service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We currently have a rating of Outstanding – the highest possible overall rating – at Christopher’s (awarded October 2016) and a rating of Good at Shooting Star House (awarded March 2020).

Position Description

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is looking for a new Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees to help guide and advise us on financial matters. The successful applicant will also join the Finance and Resources Committee. We have a dedicated Director of Finance, so the role of Treasurer is to help oversee the financial work of the charity, not to be involved in the day to day running of the Finance Department.

Trustees participate in the development of policy and major decision-making at monthly board meetings. In addition, the Finance and Resources committee meets five times a year. Trustees can also occasionally be asked to speak at staff conferences, new staff induction days and attend fundraising or volunteer events.
