About the role
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is a CQC Outstanding rated charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across West London and Surrey. We currently have a vacancy for a compassionate Paediatric Nurse based at Christopher’s, our Guildford Hospice.
As a Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Nurse you will have the opportunity to be the nurse you’ve always wanted to be, spending quality time with each child to allow you to provide holistic, personalised care. Many of our children and young people have very complex health needs enabling you to develop your clinical skills – especially in the area of technology dependency e.g. Long Term Ventilation.
Along with providing hands on clinical care there is also time for lots of fun – swimming in our hydrotherapy pool, facilitating arts and crafts, going on outings or helping children to relax in our multi-sensory room.
What is it like to work as a paediatric nurse at a children’s hospice?
To hear more about what it is like to work as a Nurse for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, hear what Sharon, one of our lead nurses, has to say:
As well as using your current skill set to ensure children receive a first class care service, our Practice Education Team will tailor a bespoke programme of support for you and develop your competencies in the latest procedures within palliative care.
We offer a competitive remuneration package with additional unsocial hours payments. You can continue your NHS pension contributions or join our Stakeholder Pension Scheme and we offer free onsite staff parking. We also have subsidised accommodation in central Guildford to support relocation.
You will be expected to participate in a rota to cover 24/7 365 days a year, working a reasonable share of weekends and public holidays.
If you are one year post qualification or newly qualified and have had a third year placement in a hospice setting this could also be the perfect job for you.
