The festive feels were out in force last week as supported families came together at Hampton Court Palace ice rink for a spin on the ice.

Always a hugely popular occasion, this annual event welcomes families from both hospices – Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford to enjoy some exclusive time on the ice rink in front of the exquisite setting of the historical Palace.

The amazing team from Hampton Court Palace ice rink ensured the rink was accessible to all – including manual and electric wheelchairs and pushchairs – with a group of super speedy marshals relishing in being able to help whizz the children and teenagers around the ice – much to everyone’s glee!

As well as the exclusive use of the ice rink and with additional marshals on hand to ensure everyone could safely experience a lap or two round the rink, families were able to enjoy some food and drinks to help warm up post skate, including hot chocolate and mulled wine (for the parents of course!). All of which was courtesy of one of our corporate partners,  Expo Technologies, who have supported us since June 2019. Since then they have raised nearly £5,000 to date, taking part of Royal Parks Half Marathon, Great River Race (dressed as pirates), World Food Day celebrations and Gung-Ho Inflatable Race.

Vikki German, Play and Activities Co-ordinator at Shooting Star House said, “It always such an amazing event and one of my favourites! The marshals are truly fantastic with the children – who absolutely love being whizzed around the ice at top speed! It’s a very special opportunity for the families to have a chance to spend time together and socialise with one another too. A huge thank you to all at Hampton Court Palace ice rink and Expo Technologies for making it such a wonderful evening.”
