The ongoing pandemic meant that many events got pushed back to the autumn meaning September and October have been jam packed with fabulous fundraisers!
We’ve featured our wonderful Sunrise Walkers and Marathon Marvels but there are so many other incredible fundraisers who have climbed mountains, donned their running shoes, pedalled across the country or scaled some seriously scary heights; we wanted to feature just a few and thank them for their tremendous support.
Although we were slightly unlucky with the weather on both of our Sunrise Walks Snowdon, Julie was much luckier when she took on the challenge of climbing Snowdon raising £356.25.
We were delighted to see the return of Action Challenge events with David and Mellissa taking on the gruelling 100km Thames Path Challenge and Stephen, the 50km Chilterns Challenge in September.
Pedal power saw George and Glyn complete the Deloitte Tour of Britain raising a combined total of £15,000, Shane cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats raising £2,426.16 and Martin take on London to Brighton to raise £1,172.50!
After the riders come the runners. We’d like to thank everyone who has pounded the streets for us this autumn but special thanks goes to Alex who took on the Hampton Court Half Marathon completing it in just 1:28 raising £810 and our Royal Parks runners. Thirty runners took on the Royal Parks Half Marathon this year, four of them a week after running the London Marathon! Over £26,000 has been raised by our amazing #TeamShootingStar!
Not to be outdone by Shane’s LEJ’OG ride, wife Breege and sister Maria, joined the Royal Parks team this year raising a brilliant £1,907.86! Shout out to Charlie for helping Dad train throughout the summer.
Last but by no means least, we want to thank two ladies who have literally taken their fundraising to another level! Lisa scaled the 278ft Spinnaker Tower to abseil back down again and after over two years, Sinead finally got to complete her Saturday Flight Fever Challenge taking on her wing walking challenge. Amazing effort all round!
If you’ve been inspired to take on your own challenge, why not visit our events calendar or get in touch with the Challenge Events team to find our more about becoming part of the amazing Team Shooting Star Children’s Hospices!
