Shooting Star Children’s Hospices have collaborative links with Professor Liossi, Professor of Paediatric Psychology, and have produced several publications and support several multicentre clinically-based research projects.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices works collaboratively in partnership with a wide range of clinical and academic services, both locally and nationally, including government, NHS, statutory, education and voluntary agencies.
We believe working together is at the heart of providing the best care and support for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Kings College London
The Cicely Saunders Institute have received European funding for a multicentre project developing C-POS (Children’s Palliative care Outcome Scale). Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, jointly with Royal Marsden Hospital, is a participating centre.
Kingston University and St. George’s University of London
We have worked collaboratively with Kingston University and St George’s for many years including providing planned placements for Child Nursing students. Professor Jayne Price, Professor of Children’s Nursing is one of our trustees and chair of our Quality, Governance and Risk Committee.

Children’s Hospice Statutory Funding Managers Group
This was set up by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices in 2014. There are members from 15 children’s hospices and it’s chaired by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. It meets quarterly and ensures that best practice around statutory funding, contracting and data collection is shared across the children’s hospice network.
Children’s Hospice Transition Network
This was set up by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices in 2017 and has representation from all local adult palliative care services as well as from the specialist paediatric palliative care team at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. This successful collaboration has now expanded with a further group being established to cover the south London region – this group has engagement from Evelina children’s palliative care service. Each group meets twice a year and shares best practice in transition.
Transition Triage Partnerships
The Transition Triage Partnerships are two groups, one in Surrey and one in south west London that are chaired by our Transition Co-ordinator and each meet twice a year. Their purpose is to bring together consultants and senior nursing staff from adult hospices with Shooting Star Children’s Hospices to specifically discuss young people who are transitioning, and to make decisions about which adult hospices are best placed to offer services to individual children as they reach transition age. They’re a first in the UK and work because they are a consultant-to-consultant forum.
South West London and Surrey Paediatric Palliative Care Network
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is a founder member and hosts this group, which was established in 2019. It is co-chaired by our Paediatric Palliative Care Consultant Dr AK Anderson and Head of Symptom and Community Services Tracie Lewin-Taylor.
APPM (Association of Paediatric Palliative Medicine)
APPM is the national organisation that represents doctors working in the field of paediatric palliative medicine. Under the current chair-ship of Dr AK Anderson, Paediatric Palliative Care Consultant, the organisation has established a biannual research day, promoted paediatric palliative care amongst undergraduate and postgraduate students, expanded the membership to include all professionals working in the field, not just doctors, improved the support to specialist medical groups and established a new clinical guidelines committee.
APPM Together for Short Lives Research Group
Together for Short Lives and the APPM (Association of Paediatric Palliative Medicine) set up a multi-disciplinary joint research group to develop a culture of research and build research capacity across the children’s palliative care sector. The group is a valuable resource for all those engaging in practice and research of children’s and young people’s palliative care. Shooting Star Children’s Hospices has been a member of this group since it’s inception.
Sharing Good Practice Group
Children’s and adult hospices, including Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, meet through this group to share best practice in governance, quality and risk.
