Shooting Star House, our Hampton hospice has welcomed a wonderful refurbishment in the dining and lounge area, all courtesy of workplace design and fit-out specialists Area, part of long-time corporate supporters, Fourfont Group.

An army of 80 staff from across the group, as well as sub-contractors, invested their time and expertise to give the communal area a much needed facelift. The team of volunteers helped to build, decorate and clean over the course of a fast track two-week programme to ensure the new space was operational as soon as possible.

The design was specially created to ensure it was not only a bright and exciting space, but also comfortable and practical,  as many of the children we support, suffer from very complex needs and conditions.

The space has been transformed into a fun and exciting environment, with magical trees, moving hot air balloons and clouds. There are vibrant dining tables and a rainbow coloured breakfast bar so families and staff can enjoy meals together. A special display area has been created where artwork can be shown, as well as comfortable sofas for families to use when they come to visit.

Jane Magowan, Head of Estates for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, said, “We can’t thank Area and Fourfront Group enough for their ceaseless hard work over the past fortnight. Through their sheer dedication and perseverance, they have achieved such an amazing sensory space for the children, families and staff at Shooting Star House. The positive response has been phenomenal – everyone loves it.”

Justin Lewis, Head of Client Support at Area said, “We’ve had the most wonderful feedback from the staff and the families who are supported by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Soon after we had finished the project, a little boy staying there spent an hour mesmerized by the hot air balloons, the trees and the clouds. The look on his face that day has made this entire project worthwhile. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the support of colleagues from Area and the wider Fourfront Group, as well as our amazing sub-contractors who generously gave us materials, furniture and accessories for free, so for this, I thank them all.”

Very special thanks go to the sub-contractors taking part in this refurbishment: Southern Fire, Eurotec, Sterling Site Supplies, Encore, Hawk Scaffolding, Bridgegate Electrical Ltd, Lawmens, RSR, Cablecomm, Synergy, Interiors Solutions London, JBL, Profixed, Carters, Amtico, Interface, Desso, Flortec, Interiors Europe, Vivid, Aztec, Artworks, Zip, Frovi, Zing Clean, Vantage Spaces, Edward Williams Furniture and JHB Building Services. Without them donating their services, time and materials, this project would not be possible.

Thanks to all involved we can continue to make every moment count for the children and families we support.
