Members of Burhill Golf Club have reached an astounding final total in a hugely successful year of fundraising for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices – raising a phenomenal £45,015.

Burhill Golf Club Captains Temi Kapo and Alexandra Jamison chose to support us as their Charity of the Year 2019. Throughout their Captaincy year, they and the club, held multiple fundraising events including their Lion King themed AGM, an event where Temi and Alexandra stepped up as Captains complete with live music and dancers!

They also held a Captain’s Ball inviting members of our fundraising team to talk about the work we do, which raised £11,000 alone; and their Captain’s Day where 31 teams took part, raising an amazing £27,000.

Alongside the larger events, the club have donated Fourball vouchers to be auctioned and raffled, and one of their members is even running this year’s London Marathon in aid of the charity.

In May 2019, members took the time to come and visit Shooting Star House, our Hampton hospice for a professional tour, giving them even more of an insight to the services we provide and even more of an incentive to raise as much as they could for families across Surrey and London supported by the charity.

Burhill Ladies Captain Alexandra Jamison said, “On visiting the Hampton hospice we were so impressed with the care and level of support provided from the staff and the volunteers that we knew it was the right decision to choose them as our charity. They provide total support for the whole family, not just the children, and it makes a massive difference in their lives. They’ve made it very easy for us to support them and it’s been a great pleasure for us to raise a substantial amount that goes to a very worthwhile cause.”

Burhill Men’s Captain Temi Kapo said, “You don’t know how lucky you are until you’ve seen for yourself the things that these families are going through. Thanks to the fantastic work by the hospice team, the children and their families are able to get the best possible care and with it being a local charity, it seemed like the right thing for the club to be involved in supporting.”

Recently the club welcomed Karen Sugarman, our Executive Vice-President and Ellie Constable, Community Fundraiser as well as charity supporter Bobby Davro for a cheque presentation to mark the amazing achievement.

Ellie Constable, Community Fundraiser at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices said, “We are beyond thrilled to receive such an incredible amount of money from Burhill Golf Club and wish to extend a huge thanks to Temi and Alexandra for choosing us as their Charity of the Year. It’s been such a pleasure working alongside them and showing them and their members the vital work we do, and in turn what an amazing difference the money they have raised will make to the families we support.”
