As 2018 drew to a close, the ‘Celebrating Rory’ team finished their stellar year of fundraising by organising their second wreath making workshop. The team, which includes Rory’s grandma Salliann and mum Hannah have raised thousands over the years in memory of Rory who was cared for by Shooting Star Chase. Rory sadly passed away in October 2017.
The creative event welcomed over 50 people, made up of family and friends, who gathered together at St George’s Christian Centre in Ashtead to try their hands at some festive creations. With expert tuition from their friendly florist Paul, everyone settled down to give their hidden creativity free rein.
Everyone felt particularly festive with music, refreshments and of course a glass of fizz! Camaraderie filled the hall with everyone helping one other whilst raising money for the charity.
Alongside the wreath making, money was raised with a tombola, sale of handmade vintage tea-cup scented eco soya wax candles and Shooting Star Chase Christmas cards and diaries for the new year.
This event is just one in the long list of fundraising the family have organised, with previous events including a special Midsummer Ball in memory of Rory, a 12 hour netball match, quiz nights and teams taking part in the Sunrise Walk.
Altogether the afternoon raised an amazing £2124 plus card sales of £270. Salliann said, “The results were absolutely amazing and everyone went home having had a lovely sociable afternoon and feeling really proud of their achievements. We are thrilled with the amount raised and it’s another wonderful tribute to the impact that Rory has had on so many people and again a wonderful way to continue to celebrate his life.”
