A packed congregation at St George’s College Chapel joined together to enjoy performances from Britain’s Got Talent’s Connie Talbot and the Elmbridge Choir at the 9th annual Surrey Life Shooting Star Chase carol concert on Thursday 17 December, which raised over £6,000.

The congregation were entertained by the Shooting Star Chase Family Choir, opera singer Nicholas George and the 140-strong Elmbridge Choir, and Connie Talbot wowed the chapel with her version of Adele’s  Make You Feel My Love, Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall and the Christmas classic Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The 14-year-old singer, who reached the final of the first series of Britain’s Got Talent in 2007 and has since released four albums, said about the concert:

“It was a huge privilege to perform at the Surrey Life Shooting Star Chase carol concert and be part of a fundraising event for a fantastic charity. The evening was really magical and I met some truly amazing and inspiring families who receive care and support from Shooting Star Chase. I hope the event raises lots of money for children who deserve a really great Christmas.”

Two supported mums gave emotional talks about looking after a child with a life-limiting condition and what Shooting Star Chase’s support means to them, and our annual Christmas video was screened, featuring supported children.

The chapel at St George’s College provided the beautiful backdrop for the festive evening and Reverend Gareth Wardell, Shooting Star House’s local vicar, lead the service. The concert, which is in conjunction with Surrey Life and sponsored by Aston Mead, was followed by a raffle and a wine and canape reception.

The event raised funds to make Christmas extra special for children cared for by Shooting Star Chase – enabling us to offer short breaks at the hospices so families can spend precious time together over the festive period and hold Christmas parties for supported children and siblings.

Katy Jones, Community Fundraising Manager at Shooting Star Chase, said:

“The Surrey Life Shooting Star Chase carol concert was a truly magical evening that got everyone in the Christmas spirit. The supported families’ involvement made it particularly special – both the readings from two of our mums and the Shooting Star Chase Family Choir’s performances didn’t leave a dry eye in the chapel.

“Thanks to everyone who joined us and gave so generously – all the funds raised at the carol concert will help Shooting Star Chase create special memories to treasure forever for the mums, dads, children and siblings we care for. And a huge thanks to Surrey Life and Aston Mead for their fantastic support.”
