Our awesome corporate partners, The SR Group, enlisted over 100 people in five cities across four continents to take part in their Crazy 5 in Five – an epic running challenge which saw 1833 miles covered worldwide last week and over £22,000 raised.

Leila leads some of the group for the last half marathon

SR Group employees from the London, New York, Sydney, Frankfurt and Dubai offices, along with clients and friends, took on five half marathons in five consecutive days from Monday 14 March to Friday 18 March. The Crazy 5 in Five participants were supported throughout the week by their less crazy colleagues (and some Shooting Star Chase staff and a supported dad!) – who tackled either one, two or three half marathons, or a 10k relay.

The 13.1 mile route around central London took in the iconic sights of the capital, including Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminster and the London Eye – while international runners in Sydney passed the Opera House, and New York participants completed their leg in Central Park.

Crazy 5 in Five participants included The SR Group CEO Mark Brewer, Shooting Star Chase’s CEO David Burland and staff from the charity – as well as Paul Chandler, whose son and family are supported by our Hampton-based hospice, Shooting Star House.

Mark Brewer said: “This was certainly one of the craziest challenges that I have taken part in.  Devised and organised by our Head of Training, Leila Hudson, and our Marketing Executive, Katie Sadler, this event grabbed the imagination of staff and clients around the world.  I am completely in awe of those who ran 5 half marathons in five days and am very grateful to everyone who so generously donated their time and money. ”

The amazing challenge raised a huge total of £22,575.82 which is to be split equally between Shooting Star Chase and Sport Relief, and is over double the challenge’s sponsorship target of £10,000!

Crossing the finish line

Sylvia La Porte, Corporate Relationship Manager at Shooting Star Chase, said:

“The SR Group are a delight to work with and have thrown themselves into fundraising for the charity since they came on board in 2014, having already raised a massive £13,000 for Shooting Star Chase.

“When they suggested the Crazy 5 in Five I knew it would be a great success but it’s exceeded all our expectations – to have that many people take part in the challenge and to have doubled their donations target is phenomenal.

“The funds raised will make a huge difference to the families we support who are going through every parent’s worst nightmare, and we can’t thank The SR Group enough.”
