A special evening of celebration was held on Wednesday 1 May to commemorate an amazing year of fundraising by our wonderful corporate partners. With their ongoing support they have collectively raised over £1 million in 2018, helping make every moment count for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
Representatives from over 27 different companies came together for the special ‘Thank You’ event which was generously hosted for free by Fuller’s at their Hock Cellar at Fuller’s Brewery in Chiswick.
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Executive Vice President Karen Sugarman thanked corporate partners and told them what an impact their help and contribution makes. She introduced Paul Chandler, a supported dad who told his very moving story of how the support and services from Shooting Star Children’s Hospices make such a difference to his son Dominic and the whole family.
It was then onto the special awards ceremony, held to recognise and honour the different ways that our corporate partners support Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.
And the winners were:
New Corporate Partner 2018 – Osborne Construction
Osborne Construction have used their skills and expertise to deliver events that have been a big hit, organising two successful fundraising golf days that were the best by par, with an additional one set for June. Shooting Star Children’s Hospices also benefited hugely from some Stadium Challenge advertising being placed prominently at Twickenham station, as well as the kind donation of 100 Hi-Vis vests to assist stewards at the event.
Event of the Year 2018 – D&G Group and their Indian Summer Ball
Corporate events never cease to amaze us with their innovation and growth year on year, together with the incredible amounts of money they raise for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. From a business that began in 2010, in a spare bedroom, eight years later D&G have helped raise over £300,000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Their most recent event was one of their most successful; with over 400 business associates in the room, the night raised a whopping £57,382 from an incredible auction, raffle, silent auction, and heads or tails.
Outstanding Team Award 2018 – Queensway Group
Just like their business, Queensway Group has built up an impressive portfolio of activities to raise funds for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Queensway Charity Committee, with members from across the group, met at the beginning of 2018 and set an ambitious target of raising over £34,000 for their local children’s hospice charity. They put together a plan with a series of events for the year involving as many parts of the organisation as possible with teams throughout the country, from London to Glasgow. With golf days, walks and sky dives they’ve raised over £57,000 this year. However most impressive of all is that they managed to get 43 colleagues to meet at 4am in the morning for our Sunrise Walk. Our largest team ever.
Outstanding Achievement Award 2018 – Fourfront Group
Fourfront Group celebrated 10 years of supporting Shooting Star Children’s Hospices in 2018 and in that time have raised over £400,000. Over the years they have led on pro-bono refurbishments at both our hospices, Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford – worth well over £100,000. In 2018, staff took part in a plethora of activities with over 130 people taking part in their own bespoke challenge which saw them walk over 20 miles in blistering heat. They’ve brought their innovative approach to office design to our hospices and in the last year completed another huge project, entirely refurbishing our Hampton hospice family dining area at no cost to us.
Charity Partnership Award 2018 – Berenberg
We knew we could bank on this partnership being a success – from an initial Apprentice Shop Challenge event where they took over our retail outlets, through to volunteering at Shooting Star House. Staff have cycled, quizzed, volunteered and run to help the families we care for. They have also supported our families at the Hampton Court Palace Family ice skating events, a really important inclusive annual event. Through their two year partnership they have raised over £54,000.
Charity Champion Award – Susan Reed from Heathrow Baggage for her unwavering commitment
Susan has been involved with Shooting Star Children’s Hospices for many years, raising awareness and becoming an ambassador even before Shooting Star House was built. Over the years, Susan has recruited willing volunteers to help at our Hampton hospice and at London Marathon cheer-points. In 2018, Susan went one step further and brought on the rest of the Team Heathrow Baggage when she nominated us to be their chosen Charity of the Year. Together, the team organised a programme of events throughout 2018 including a Fish and Chips Talent Night, a Family Fun Day, golf day and volunteered at the Sunrise Walk – smashing their original target raising over £21,000.
Special Recognition Award – Greenhat People
Companies support us in so many different ways and the value of this is never underestimated by us and Greenhat People went the extra mile (technically 40 miles) for us in 2018. When we approached a number of companies to see if they would design a bespoke team challenge for us, they offered their services pro-bono. Despite the bespoke nature of the event, Greenhat People invested their time and expertise in creating an event that raised £29,000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.
Noor Al-Takriti, member of corporate partner Interland Group said of the evening, “Congratulations on a splendid evening, we have been inspired to do more with Shooting Star Children’s Hospices! What a great balance the evening had showing appreciation to its corporate partners/sponsors.”
