Forget Reading and Leeds – StarFest was the only place to be last weekend, as families came together at Shooting Star House to enjoy some live music, games and plenty of treats!
Our Hampton hospice played host to the very first StarFest on Saturday 24th August, where supported families could come together to experience a very special festival in the safe and comfortable environment of the Shooting Star House garden.
Thankfully no wellies were required as the sun shone all day, meaning everyone could make the most of the music and more importantly the delicious ice creams on offer, as well as having a go at making there own candy floss.
A varied line up on the main stage meant there was something for both the children and adults to enjoy. Jack performed all the favourite Disney songs on guitar and Adam performed some classic Elvis hits with his ukuele! There was plenty of singing and dancing along, with some of our very own care staff, including Play Activities Coordinator Vikki taking to the mic!
As well as the live music, there was lots of fun garden games to take part in and a magician worked his magic to leave children and parents alike enthralled and confused in equal measure.
There was also an opportunity for everyone to come together for the sensory music box activity. A lot of the children supported by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices are unable to speak or struggle to express themselves – activities like the music box use music, songs, and colourful sensory toys, like the parachute to engage, relax and entertain.
Peppa Pig and her brother George and Woody from Toy Story also popped by to say hello and enjoy the fun.
Vikki German, Play Activities Coordinator at Shooting Star House, who helped organise the day said, “It was the first StarFest we’ve done and are so pleased with how well it went and how much the families enjoyed it! It was lovely to have some live music, garden games and even the unexpected water fight – which I certainly didn’t start! A huge thanks to everyone who was involved to help make the day happen and roll on StarFest 2020!”
