There wasn’t an empty seat (or stomach) in sight on Wednesday 24th January, as corporate partner, Fuller’s, held The Great Sausage Roll Off 2018 at their pub, The Red Lion in Barnes, raising hundreds of pounds in aid of Shooting Star Chase.
The competition, now in its sixth year, pitted 16 top chefs from across the country to raise the bar of sausage roll creations in front of a panel of expert judges, Philip Howard (Elystan Street), Oliver Peyton OBE (Peyton and Byrne), Eric Lanlard (Master Patissier and owner of Cake Boy) and Kate Ovens (Presenter and Man vs Food challenges) and was hosted by award-winning beer and food writer, Melissa Cole.
The creations ranged from spiced lamb to smoked eel to curry spiced chicken and pork, with the winning creation ‘Rits and Robs’ coming from John Grabecki, Head Chef at BNY Mellon. His winning rabbit sausage roll was loin in the middle surrounded boudin noir and minced pork shoulder, mustard, honey and confit shallot, served with port and rabbit liver parfait and rabbit belly bacon.
As well as plates for the judges, each competitor supplied samples of their entries, which were auctioned off to the hungry crowd all in aid of Shooting Star Chase. Combined with a range of other fantastic auction items, the event raised over £800 to help make every moment count for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
Shooting Star Chase and Fuller’s partnership began back in 2012 and since then has been going from strength to strength. The support received from Fuller’s is extensive with a plethora of activities and challenges taken on by the staff including skydives, family fun days and quiz nights. Alongside this, Shooting Star Chase receives donations from their children’s menu and Ale & Pie menu.
