The ‘Celebrating Rory’ team kicked off their 2019 fundraising in style as they put their brain matter to the test with a Great British Quiz at Ashtead Scout Hall this March.
The event is the latest in a number of special events organised by the family of Rory, who was cared for by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Rory’s grandma Salliann and mum Hannah have raised thousands over the years in memory of Rory, who sadly passed away in October 2017.
Over 90 friends and family came together in an evening of intellectual challenge – answering questions all with a British theme.
“Everyone really entered into the spirit, with very friendly and convivial competition! Camaraderie filled the hall with great teamwork and rivalry between the teams – it felt like a real celebration,” said Salliann.
During the challenge the quizzers were treated to a fish and chip supper to help feed their brain power, and to raise additional funds there was also a raffle, with prizes being donated by friends and local businesses. Altogether the evening raised an amazing £1214.50.
“Each and every event we put on is phenomenally supported and is a wonderful tribute to the impact that Rory has has on so many people, and again a lovely way to continue to celebrate his life,” said Salliann.
Supporters can look forward to ‘A Night at the Races’ set to take place in June.
