As the countdown to the London Marathon 2020 creeps ever closer, over the past two weekends 19 runners from our 2020 super Shooting Star London Marathon team paid a visit to our hospices, Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford.

The bespoke visits were specially organised by the Challenge Events team to give the runners an opportunity to gain a real insight into what a children’s hospice is really like.

During the visit the team were given a tour of the hospices to see some of the services and facilities that are available to the families who desperately rely on our support. The visits also gave the team a chance to get to know one another and share how their training is going so far.

Some feedback from runners included:

Thank you so much for the invite to Shooting Star House on Saturday. It was great to see the hospice and learn all about the fantastic work you and the team do there, I left feeling really inspired and have extra motivation for the long runs ahead now.”

“Thank you for today – truly amazing what you all do. Proud to be able to play a small part in helping.”

“A truly fascinating insight into the wonderful place that Christopher’s is.”

“The positive, relaxed and homely environment was so welcoming.  I was overwhelmed by the huge amount of support offered to the whole family – from swimming sessions, therapies, siblings days, movie nights to simple family meals. I came away feeling uplifted and privileged to be able to play a small part in contributing to such a special place.”

Loren Ludlow, Challenge Events Fundraiser said of the visits, “The visits to our hospices are a really important part of the training for our London Marathon runners. It’s a great opportunity for the team to see who and what they are running for and allows them to ask questions and find out exactly what the money they are trying to raise goes toward. We are very lucky to have such a  fantastic team this year – each and every person is undertaking such an amazing challenge and we’ll be with them every step of the way!”

A huge thank you must go to CloudShift, who are a Salesforce implementation and management partner, who are sponsoring our post-race reception.
