Last year, our Guildford hospice, Christopher’s not only celebrated its 16th birthday, it also welcomed a wonderful makeover – thanks to the generosity of some of the charity’s corporate partners and donors.
Throughout the year the hospice saw a number of improvements with an extensive remodel of the reception, upgrade of the garden, installation of an amazing cinema room and a fabulous lighting and music system for the hydrotherapy pool. This culminated with a comprehensive refurbishment over the winter months. With no makeover of this scale since opening in 2001, the refurbishment included improvements to the children’s bedrooms, including a new tree theme for the bed headboards, vanity units, state of the art ‘H’ hoists, new décor and flooring. A warm and inviting atmosphere has been created in the family lounge and dining area with comfortable, plush furnishings, innovative lighting, vibrant dining tables and rainbow coloured toy cupboards. The flats, which supported families can use during respite care, were also given an update with modern comfy décor to help give a home from home feel. The main refurbishment took place over twelve weeks with the contractors working around the care team and children to ensure care services weren’t disrupted.Shooting Star Chase Vice President Tony Hadley, who recently had a tour of the new look hospice said; “It was an honour to see the fantastic refurbishment at Christopher’s and spend time meeting the children, young people, families, volunteers and staff. I am very proud to be a Vice President of Shooting Star Chase and would like to thank everyone involved for all the vital support and care given to families now and in the future.” Very special thanks go to Area, Allianz, Fusion Community Initiatives, Guildford Borough Council, ICAP, Paul Strank Charitable Trust, Snap Solutions, The Childwick Trust, The Openwork Foundation, The UPS Foundation, The Toy Trust, Together for Cinema, Werth Trust, West Elm, Wolfston Foundation and Wooden Spoon for raising money, donating their time, products and expertise to ensure the refurbishment was possible; ensuring we can continue to make every moment count for the children and families we support.
