Shooting Star Chase’s Guildford-based hospice, Christopher’s, celebrated Chinese New Year and the year of the monkey this month with a special sensory day for supported children and siblings.
The Chinese-themed morning on Wednesday 17 February started with the ‘Hello’ song, welcoming each child in Chinese, followed by lots of games and arts and crafts.
Staff and volunteers helped children make oriental fans and masks of the Chinese New Year animal from their birth year, which included rats, monkeys, tigers and pigs.
Children also enjoyed feeling for Chinese New Year animal figures and flowers in multi-coloured rice and smelling potpourri, as well as having their faces painted.
This was all before tucking into one of the hospices hearty lunches! A Chinese lion from the World Eagle Claw Association performed in the hospice for supported families in the afternoon – wowing children with the colourful dancing animal up and down the corridors. Happy Chinese New Year to all!
