Shooting Star Chase is delighted to announce we’ve got a new Director of Care, Helen Sibley, to oversee the care service and build on our reputation as a leading provider of children’s hospice and palliative care.

Helen replaces our previous Director of Care, Elaine Conisbee, who we said a sad farewell to in the new year. Elaine was Shooting Star Chase’s Director of Care for over two years and worked at the charity for a total of 15 years in posts including Community Team Member, Team Leader and Head of Clinical Services.

Elaine said: “After a brilliant 15 years at Shooting Star Chase I am sad to be leaving and I’m sure it will take time to adjust to retirement. I know the charity will continue to work hard to ensure they provide the best care and support for the children and their families who use the service and are central to everything Shooting Star Chase do – they have taught me so much.”

Helen, who started her role this month, will continue to ensure we offer first class care and support, and work on meeting the growing demand for Shooting Star Chase’s services for more children with life-limiting conditions and their families across London and Surrey. Bringing more than 30 years’ experience in nursing and healthcare to the role, Helen was most recently Associate Director of Operations, Women’s Health and Paediatrics at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals.

Helen said: “I’m excited to join Shooting Star Chase, not only because of my passion and experience in this field but also because of how impressed I’ve been with the professionalism and dedication of the staff. They really do make a difference to the lives of the children and families going through extremely difficult times and I couldn’t ask for a better framework to start this role.

“My aim is to continue developing and improving our already high standard of care, and ensure more families in desperate need of our help across London and Surrey get the support they need – and I look forward to making that a reality.”

David Burland, CEO of Shooting Star Chase, said: “The Director of Care position at Shooting Star Chase is instrumental in ensuring we maintain our excellent level of care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families, while also meeting the organisational aim of making our service available to more people in need.

“Helen brings a huge amount of experience and expertise to this role and I have no doubt she will pick up where Elaine left off in ensuring we continue to provide the very best care; meet growing demand; and recruit, support and train the care team.”
