A look inside our sustainability projects

March 19, 2024

Caring for the children and families we support is at the heart of everything we do, but we know that we can only continue to provide care long into the future by also caring for our planet. We have a responsibility to the families we support and the services we provide, today and in the future, to reduce the impact we have on the environment and our local community.

That’s why we’re dedicated to minimising our carbon and environmental footprint; we want to ensure future generations inherit a planet that thrives with health and sustainability.

Andy Sivyer, Head of Estates and Sustainability, said, “There is no doubt that we are moving in the right direction, which is not only good for the planet but is the morally correct thing to be doing. With everyone’s help, Shooting Star will steadily become an even greener organisation in the future.”

Our commitment involves both collective and individual efforts:

Recycling by separating waste at the source

A cycle to work scheme

Repurposing 95% of our waste shop donations through a collaboration with Choice Textile

The installation of solar panels at Christopher's, as well as electric vehicle charging points and replacing high energy lights with energy efficient LEDs

Support us and be sustainable!

Last year we collected over 650 Christmas trees and recycled them after the festive season thank to our team of hardworking elves. The trees were either chipped sustainability or were recycled into environmentally friendly compost.
