Christmas cheer for supported and bereaved families
As we welcome the New Year, we look back on a special Christmas season, filled with warmth and joy at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Father Christmas made a special early visit to Shooting Star House, where 144 supported and bereaved family members gathered for an unforgettable experience at Santa’s Grotto. The event was spread across four heart-warming sessions, each filled with magic and cheer.
Each family had the chance to meet Santa in the Grotto, where they were given a personalised gift bag, generously donated by our supporters. Whether it was a gift for a Peppa Pig fan or an avid gamer, every child left with a special present to treasure, and every parent enjoyed a festive moment to remember.
The Grotto was designed to be fully accessible, ensuring that families of all abilities could enjoy the experience without barriers – something that many public grottos are unable to offer. It was also a space of comfort for bereaved families, offering solace as they navigated the emotional challenge of spending Christmas without their child.
Families were also able to visit two of Santa’s reindeer who were on their final stop before heading back to the North Pole. Our families had the opportunity to get up close, take photos, and truly soak up the Christmas spirit. Santa also arrived in his sleigh to deliver a special gift to each of the supported and bereaved children who attended. Families were invited to capture a cherished family photo with Father Christmas – a perfect keepsake for families to treasure for years to come.
These special events created lasting memories for all who attended, reminding us all of the power of coming together and sharing the joy of Christmas.
