Tree-mendous recycling supporting Shooting Star Children’s Hospices
We’re excited to announce the return of the Christmas tree collection service for the third year running, set to take place on 13 and 14 January 2025. Following the success of our previous collections in 2023 and 2024, we aim to build on that momentum, growing the number of trees collected, increasing donations, and raising awareness for our fantastic cause.
Once again, we’re partnering with JustHelping, a nationwide charity that has been facilitating Christmas tree collections for hospices and other local causes across the UK since 2012. With their support, we’re confident this year’s collection will be even bigger and better!
Here’s how to get involved:
By recycling your real Christmas tree with us, not only will you be supporting Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, but you’ll also be helping the environment. This year, we’re putting even more focus on the recycling aspect, encouraging people to take part in a more sustainable festive season! Your donation will go towards providing essential care to babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions, ensuring they receive the support they need over the Christmas period.
A more sustainable Christmas:
- Recycle your real Christmas tree: Let us take the hassle out of recycling your tree – no needles in your car or trips to the tip. We welcome a minimum suggested donation and we’ll collect your tree and ensure its recycled responsibly, therefore, helping us continue to provide care for families during the holiday season.
- A greener planet: By chipping your tree, we reduce its carbon footprint by up to 80%. It’s a simple way to make the festive season brighter for those in need while also helping the planet!
- Donation breakdown: 90% of all funds raised will go directly to Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, with the remaining 10% distributed to other local charities.
- Volunteers in action: Our cheerful elf helpers will collect your tree from your doorstep, saving you time, hassle, and mess, so you can enjoy a stress-free start to the new year.
Operating within a radius of Merrist Wood College in Worplesdon and Shooting Star House in Hampton, our volunteer elves will collect trees from across selected postcodes in the GU and TW area between Monday 13 – Tuesday 14 January 2025.
Our sponsor for this year’s service, Ridge, is a Built Environment Consultancy. They help public and private sector clients transform the quality and sustainability of the built environment by providing access to a wide range of integrated expertise and professional disciplines.
Lauren Bailey, Head of Social Value at Ridge commented: “Ridge is a company that is always seeking innovative ways to make a transformational difference to communities where we live and work. We’re humbled by the incredible work that the Shooting Star Children’s Hospices do to bring light and comfort to families in their darkest hours and we’re very proud to be assisting with the charity’s fundraising efforts. Our sponsorship of this year’s Christmas tree collection service will support the scheme’s success and help support the charity’s vital work with families across West London and Surrey.”
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is delighted to have this service for the third year running – your participation will help bring comfort and joy to children with life-limiting conditions and their families this festive season.
