Amazing news! Shooting Star Chase has the X Factor once again, as the charity is joint beneficiary of the show’s single, along with children’s hospice umbrella organisation, Together for Short Lives, for a third year.
It was announced on Saturday’s final show on 2 December, that the winner of The X Factor 2017 will release the Winner’s Duet on Sunday 3 December. All proceeds from the track are in aid of children’s hospice charities, Shooting Star Chase and Together for Short Lives.
During Saturday night’s show, Shooting Star Chase Vice President Simon Cowell personally donated an astounding £250,000 as part of the charity single fund. He also challenged the public to try and raise £1 million over The X Factor weekend by donating to Shooting Star Chase and Together for Short Lives.
The songs were first performed by the finalists and their respective guest artist on Saturday night’s final. Rak-Su teamed up with Grammy-award winning rapper Wyclef Jean; Grace Davies duetted with BRIT Award winner Paloma Faith and Kevin Davy White was joined on stage by multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Tokio Myers. Rak-Su and Grace Davies went onto battle it out on Sunday’s show, with Rak-Su taking the crown as Winners of The X Factor 2017.
The group performed an amazing rendition of their Winners’ Duet single – Dimelo with Naughty Boy and Wyclef Jean and the song is now available to download and stream with all proceeds going to Shooting Star Chase and Together for Short Lives.
Shooting Star Chase supported family, Caroline and Ellie, featured in the charity single appeal film – which aired on the Saturday night final show, telling the story of their son and brother Josh.
16-year-old Josh was fit, sporty and unassuming. He’d had no significant health concerns, until one day the family’s world came crashing down. Josh was given the devastating news he had Clear Cell Sarcoma – a very rare form of cancer. “The moment we arrived at the hospice everything changed,” said Josh’s Mum, Caroline. “Although it was an experience too painful to explain, Shooting Star Chase made it the best it could be. I will always be grateful to Shooting Star Chase for the way they cared for Josh and our family.”
Karen Sugarman, Director of Fundraising at Shooting Star Chase said: “We are all thrilled here at Shooting Star Chase to be named as joint beneficiaries of The X Factor charity single. Christmas is a time where family is so important and can be particularly difficult for those who have lost a loved one. When you have a child with a life-limiting condition, every moment is precious, and a happy moment is a treasure to hold onto amongst all the difficult times. As well as providing medical and nursing care for the child, Shooting Star Chase are there for the whole family, practically and emotionally. It costs £10 million every year to provide the vital care at our hospices and in families’ homes across London and Surrey. Fundraising in today’s economic climate is proving increasingly difficult. We are truly grateful to our friends at the X Factor. Their generous support is a perfect Christmas gift, and we encourage people to buy the charity single to help us continue our vital work to help provide precious memories.”
Barbara Gelb, CEO of Together for Short Lives said, “Together for Short Lives is delighted to be benefiting from the X Factor Charity Winner’s Single once again this year – it’s a wonderful Christmas gift, and your generous support will mean so much to the UK’s 49,000 seriously ill children and their families. Hearing the news that your child has a life-limiting condition and is going to die young is heart-breaking. Families can feel very alone coming to terms with their child’s diagnosis, and simply do not know which way to turn for help and support. And many families struggle to get the care they desperately need. That’s why working with the X Factor is so important – with your help Together for Short Lives can to reach out to thousands of families who face the unimaginable, connecting them with local lifeline support – and campaigning for change so families don’t have to fight to get the care they need and can make the most of every precious moment together. Thank you X Factor!”
The Winner’s Duet by Rak-Su and Wyclef Jean is available to download and stream now and is The X Factor UK’s 10th charity release. Simco Limited will donate 100% of its profits from the sale of each download and in respect of all audio streaming of the single, and the Chancellor has also agreed to donate the VAT, in each case to be shared equally by Together For Short Lives and Shooting Star Chase.
