Following the success of the Open Day at Christopher’s back in July, it was the turn of Shooting Star House, our hospice in Hampton to host their Open Day, welcoming people to come and discover the work of a children’s hospice.
The day, open to everyone in the local community gave the perfect opportunity to learn more about the work Shooting Star Chase does, and how those interested can help support this work.
We welcomed over 100 supporters, allowing staff and volunteers a chance to showcase all the different areas and facilities available to the families.
Guests were taken on guided tours to see all the facilities first hand and have the opportunity to speak to the Care Team and ask any questions. They also had the chance to meet and talk to representatives from our fundraising teams including Legacy, Community, Challenge Events, Corporate as well as finding out about how they could volunteer with us.
The guests fed back their thoughts about the day and the hospice with comments including “Amazing staff and volunteers and amazing atmosphere, so positive and refreshing”; “A real home from home feel”; “It was great to understand what Shooting Star Chase does”; “Such a different feel from a hospital”; “Great to see the wealth of activities and services available to families” and “A lovely environment for the children, amazing care and facilities”.
The guests were then able to enjoy some tea and delicious cakes whilst speaking to fellow supporters, staff and volunteers.
Georgina Goddard, Head of Supporter Development said, “It’s wonderful to see the Open Day was so well received and that we had so many people come along to find out more about Shooting Star Chase and the work we do. The days are a great opportunity to give supporters a real insight and see first hand what and how we help care for the children with life-limiting conditions, and their families. Family is so important, particularly at this time of year, and we couldn’t provide the care we do without our amazing supporters, so would like to thank all those who attended. Also a huge thanks to all the staff and volunteers who made the day possible.”
