Our triumphant #TeamShootingStar certainly don’t do things by halves, well unless they are taking on a Half Marathon that is – as 19 runners enjoyed the scenic surroundings of Surrey to complete the Surrey Half Marathon on Sunday 8th March.

The county’s largest half marathon started and finished in Woking, taking runners towards Guildford, where our hospice Christopher’s is based, and onto surrounding areas.

Throughout the event, the weather remained bright and cheery – just like the crowds who cheered and wooped our runners along the way.

Out of our 19 super Surrey Halfers, 18 are also running this year’s London Marathon. They were joined by Tom, who wanted to take on the Surrey Half in support of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices – raising over £1,000 alone!

The event also provided a perfect training run and a chance to catch up with one another for our London Marathon team who are all hoping to raise money and awareness for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices at the world renowned event at the end of April.

Alexa Dizon, Head of Challenge Events said of the day, “It was such a pleasure to cheer on our terrific team of runners on Sunday, all taking running a Half Marathon in their stride! A huge congratulations to everyone who took part. The majority of runners are also set to run the London Marathon this year and we want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of them for taking on such a momentous challenge in aid of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. The money they raise and every step they take will truly make a difference to children with life-limiting conditions, and their families we provide vital care and support for.”

If you fancy joining the best team around – #TeamShootingStar – there are other races to be run this year! And if running isn’t your thing, don’t worry as we have plenty of different challenges you can take on whilst helping to make every moment count for children with life-limiting conditions and their families – visit our Challenge Events Calendar to find out more.
