There was a flurry of excitement, bargains, sweet treats and stellar selling taking place last week as three of our Shooting Star Children’s Hospices shops were taken over by corporate supporter, Kier in the Apprentice Shop Challenge.
The Apprentice Shop Challenge is a truly unique way for staff to volunteer their time, gain some teamwork and sales skills, whilst helping to raise vital funds to help support the babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
In advance of the takeover, the staff at the UK construction, services and property group, asked their colleagues, suppliers, friends and family for sponsorship, held raffles at work and sold delicious donuts which raised over £20,000. The team also donated lots of wonderful One Good Thing Items which were valued at £3,300.
On the day our Fulham, Twickenham and Walton shop played host to all the teams who organised a tombola, face painting, collected outside supermarkets and gave away cakes and treats to entice people into the shops. They were also on hand to help and advise customers on their perfect outfit, and even in one case personally steamed it for him!
Clare Harle, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Fulham Shop Manager said, “The team we had at Fulham were so enthusiastic to know how the shop worked and the start to end process of donations, that they got involved in every aspect. They were also amazing ‘personal’ shoppers to a number of customers! One customer needed a dinner suit and they found him one, matched all the accessories and personally steamed it for him! It was a really enjoyable day.”
Giz Hashmi, Kier said, “It was lovely to meet Anne and some of the team at Twickenham (Adrienne, Joan and Jan). Thank you for allowing us to be part of the amazing work that you all do – we were honoured.”
The teams worked full on throughout the day and together raised an astounding £25,349 which will go towards making every moment count for the families we support. We’d like to extend a huge well done and thank you to Kier for their amazing and ongoing support!
And if this has got you in the mood to pick up some bargains – make sure you pop into one of our shops which a full to the brim of wonderful items at amazing prices. Find your nearest shop here.
