While most of us were soaking up the sunshine on Bank Holiday Monday, a team of ten Shooting Star Chase members of staff took part in the Vitality London 10,000 run.
Ellie Bennett, Community Fundraiser said of the event, “The Vitality 10,000 was definitely one to remember! The streets were lined with crowds of people, and there was lots of live music along the way; the atmosphere was just amazing. The route through London was beautiful, although I think I spent most of my time looking at my feet, wondering if they would keep plodding on in the ever increasing heat. Luckily they did and I was able to cross the finish line and celebrate with our wonderful team. I felt so proud to be running for Shooting Star Chase.”
The Vitality London 10km is an annual road running event that takes the participants through the roads of St James Park and finishes on the mall by Buckingham Palace.
Alex Rennie, Head of Corporate & Challenge Events said, “It was a great day and I felt really proud to represent Shooting Star Chase and that we all completed the race in fairly tropical conditions, for some it was there first 10k too! The actual run was my least favourite part but I really enjoyed meeting up with everyone at Waterloo and the beautiful walk through Westminster and St James’s Park to the start. 9am on a bank holiday is definitely the time to explore London as there were no crowds! It was also brilliant to all get together in the park after and swap stories and times and I also really enjoyed a celebratory Pimms and slice of pizza!”
The triumphant ten coped with the soaring temperatures and throngs of people to raise an amazing £1,700 and counting to help children and their families that are cared for by Shooting Star Chase.
