EMDR therapy session

EMDR Therapy

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is an effective treatment for those who experience trauma-induced symptoms such as flashbacks and intrusive thoughts and it is recommended by the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence as a treatment for post traumatic stress disorder. If you, or someone in your family is experiencing these symptoms you can request more information from our Family Support team.

Available for

We can offer EMDR therapy to some supported children and young people, siblings and parents depending on the outcome of an assessment.

How it works

At present we offer group and individual EMDR sessions virtually, via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.  In some cases we can also offer in-person sessions at Christopher’s.

What does it involve:

EMDR therapy aims to equip you with grounding techniques, help you process the traumatic event and reinforce positive self-belief.

Feedback from a Bereaved Mum

“I think EMDR has saved my life. The memories are still there, but I can think about it now and I can live with them. I feel so much lighter. I still feel sad, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything because I had had her. I am massively grateful to Crystal, Shaan and everybody at Shooting Star who’s supported us.”

Feedback from a Bereaved Dad

“My EMDR sessions were so helpful. I feel that if I hadn’t had this available my future would look a lot darker, and it would be harder to manage my inner feelings and emotions. I am once again so grateful for this wonderful charity.”
