Will be fulfilling a long term goal by completing the marathon
Emily
Completing a marathon has always been on Emily’s mind to achieve.
This year, that thought will become a reality, as Emily gears up to tackle the 26.2-mile London Marathon.
“I feel like I wanted a sense of accomplishment and a challenge,” explains Emily.
“After a lot of travelling, I realised, sometimes, how easy it is to take our lives for granted.”
Emily will be running in aid of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices after becoming aware of the work the charity does for babies, children, and young people and their families, as well as those who are bereaved, through a partnership with her own workplace.
“I am an interior designer at Burbeck Interiors. We are a multi-award-winning interior design company based in London. We work regularly with Shooting Star to raise money where we can and give back to the charity in any way we can for such an amazing cause.”
“Shooting Star have organised some fabulous events in the lead-up. We have met up in person for group training runs, group chats, and even had a tour of Christopher’s in Guildford which was so special and will keep my motivation high on the big day!”
It will be a day that will no doubt be tough for all participants, with Emily describing how running used to feel like “a chore.”
“I have never really been a long-distance runner at all. Now, it’s a time where I can reflect, a time to think a bit like therapy, in a way, I guess.”
In 2023, more than 48,500 people covered the world-famous course from London’s Greenwich to The Mall, while thousands more completed the marathon distance wherever they wished around the globe as part of the virtual event.
It’s the largest annual one-day fundraising event on the planet, with participants raising more than £1 billion for good causes since the first edition in 1981. It is a celebration of fun, fundraising, fancy dress, amazing community spirit, and a triumph of positivity, inclusivity, and togetherness.
“I have never felt so included being part of Team Shooting Star!” explains Emily.
“It is wonderful to be running with such a great group of inspiring individuals. We are all running for different reasons, and it is great to be able to come together.”
