We can assist you with planning and running a range of fundraising activities that will count towards the requirements of your volunteering section, and we are able to sign off your hours for this. For example taking part in our annual Sunrise Walk is a great way of raising funds and getting in some walking practice for your expedition.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE)
If you’re looking for ideas to complete your DofE award, we’re delighted that you’re considering Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. We have a wide range of fundraising and volunteering opportunities available, and by helping us you will be supporting babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.

How you can get involved
Silver DofE
In addition to fundraising, at Silver level we accept DofE participants aged 15 years and older as volunteers within our charity shops. Volunteering in our shops can help you build your CV, learn new skills, and have fun too! We have shops in Surrey and west London (view their locations here). You will need to commit to a two-hour shift each week for a six month period. You can do this either after school or at weekends.
Gold DofE
As well as fundraising or volunteering in our shops, if you are 18 years of age you can also apply to volunteer in our hospices in a variety of roles. We will need to carry out a DBS check which is a simple online process.
Apply to volunteer in one of our shops
You can apply online or visit the shop you would like to volunteer in and collect an application form. Your parents/guardians will also need to sign a parental consent form. We will then arrange for you to attend an informal interview with the shop manager (you’ll need to bring your signed and completed parental consent form to this). When necessary we will also apply for a licence from your local authority. Please note we cannot accept people under 15 as volunteers in our shops.
