Fundraising Admin
Kim
Kim volunteers with us as a fundraising admin, supporting our fundraising team.
“I was inspired to volunteer as, having abruptly left full-time occupation, I attended an Open day at shooting Star House where I was very impressed by the work that was being done. My volunteer role is varied. I began as a bank volunteer receptionist at Bridge House, which has since closed due to Covid. I was then asked to help Community Fundraising which I do, alongside helping in Finance, Supporter Care, Corporate, and anyone who needs me!
Volunteering for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is fulfilling; it means being able to make a difference to people who are experiencing some of the worst times in their lives. It has also restored my feelings of self-worth, increased my confidence and feeling valued (as well as acquiring some new IT skills). I thoroughly enjoy being a volunteer, making a difference and working alongside some very like-minded, warm and supportive people. The full-time staff have always been totally supportive, patient and helpful. I have been privileged to meet a lot of very interesting people and attend some prestigious functions. My highlights include a ride in a McClaren Sports car and carol concerts at Waterloo.
Outside of volunteering my family is my main priority, followed by friends. I enjoy swimming, socialising, craft and watching sport.
What would I say to prospective volunteers? If you are prepared to put in the time and commitment, you will get an awful lot out of it.
