Medication changes often occur through different medical teams, and we understand with complex or frequent changes it can be hard to get accurate labelling. While previously we were able to accept verbal updates from parents or guardians, this is no longer considered safe practice and does not meet current guidelines and legal requirements. Please read the information below to understand what information will need to be provided alongside your child’s medication.
Medication requirements for children staying at Christophers
To ensure the safety of all children during their stay, we require that all medications are brought in correctly labelled pharmacy packaging. This allows our nursing team to accurately transcribe medications onto a medication administration record for use during your child’s visit. Before your child's next stay at Christopher's please familiarise yourself with the information we will need to dispense their medication, and contact us if you need support in obtaining this.
Update on how we can recieve information about your child's medication
Medicines can only be administered if we have one of the following:
Pharmacy label
This must include the correct dose information. If the label says “use as directed,” we will need an additional document showing the dose.
Recent Clinic or GP letter
This letter must state the name of the medication and the correct dose.
A signed letter
From your child’s doctor confirming any changes.
