Fabulous family fundraisers head for £100,000
Saturday 8 June 2024 marks a very special day for Jane and her family, as they’ll be celebrating what would have been their son Jack’s 21st birthday. On this milestone date, family and friends will be taking on their latest fundraiser in memory of Jack by walking a huge 21km, with the hopes they’ll push the total cash they’ve collectively raised for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices over the years, past the £100,000 mark.
Jack died of a brain tumour when he was just four years old, spending the last day of his life at Shooting Star. “I don’t need to explain how difficult it was, but the hospice was kind enough to accept us and look after us,” said Jane.
“We wanted to keep his memory alive and to celebrate him, and upon learning how much Shooting Star rely on donations, we decided to do some fundraisers, holding a big one every year on Jack’s anniversary.
“Everybody’s been so generous in supporting us. One family friend has run in the London Marathon ten times, another took on the Marathon des Sables in the desert. We’ve held annual Top Golf events with over 100 friends and family coming together to raise money and we’ve completed the Thames Path 50km challenge – which was a killer! My auntie requested donations instead of gifts for her 50th anniversary. She’s since passed but asked for friends and family to raise money for the charity instead of flowers.
“Jack was a really special little boy and always will be, he lives on in everyone’s memory,” reflects Jane, “and it’s amazing to be able to celebrate him and to support such a wonderful charity.”
