Paediatric Palliative Care training days

July 19, 2022

We’re proud to have a superb team of healthcare professionals working across our hospices and in the community to give vital medical and holistic care to the families who need us.

Recently our practice education team planned and facilitated one of their excellent foundations in paediatric palliative care training days.

These days are always well attended with both internal and external professionals. This particular session, which was held virtually, welcomed 20 professionals and kept delegates engaged with quizzes, breakout rooms and polls.

This day was focused on sessions delivered around Ethics in practice, Symptom Management, Advance Care planning and an update from Together for Short Lives, which is the the national charity that supports the 54 children’s hospices throughout the UK, including Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

Our training days are held twice a year and are always over subscribed with positive feedback.

We’ve also played host to Advance Care Planning and ReSPECT training sessions in May and July, held at our Hampton hospice and run by our SPACE team and the Transition Coordinator. These days are funded via Surrey Heartlands who gave Shooting Star Children’s Hospices funds to deliver this vital training. These will continue to run twice a year.

We had great feedback from the days, which included;

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for arranging and hosting the study day yesterday.”

“I felt the study day was really well planned and I have taken away valuable teaching which I will share with my team.”

“Thank you for organising and arranging the food also – what a treat!”

“You have all inspired me to follow my passion for palliative care / symptom management nursing so hopefully one day in the future our paths may pass again.”
